Or maybe he just overreacted to a conversation that was making him feel uncomfortable. If I was dating someone new, went to meet their friends, and then had to sit there for a while listening to my new boyfriend and his friend argue about sex, I might feel a bit snippy too.

Not THAT snippy obviously, but still. If he was sitting there silently, what stopped you from changing the damn subject and trying to talk about movies or TV or whatever?

My only concern is in six to ten years when I might decide to come off the pill and have children, what will happen to all the gays?

@19,

I wasn't going to comment, but what you said made me feel like I had to.

My mum ran away from home at 16. She came from a well off background, and parents who tried to get her back. She also absolutely did the right thing. Her mother was violent and escalating, and the press would have had no idea about that, if they'd run her story. (As far as I know, they didn't.)

She planned it for two years. She made connections in the city she ran to, and some amazing friends who raised me with her when I came along.

I'm not championing running away. In 99.9% of cases they end up on the streets, having horrible things done to them. My dad worked for homeless charities. I know the stats. But don't decide that these boys definitely didn't know what they were doing, or that they couldn't maybe have been right.

To be fair, benefits given to the parents of learning disabled kids ARE horrifically low in some cases. I've seen the mother of a child I work with close to tears because her daughter was throwing ANOTHER autistic tantrum and she hadn't had a break in weeks. It must be incredibly hard.

Other than that, I totally agree.

Leave the woman alone. What she allowed to happen was disgusting, but I imagine she's realised that by now. Telling her repeatedly won't change that. What you SHOULD be doing is telling the men who took advantage of a woman's fear for her son (and damn naivety) that they're disgusting. Because they are.

As to the video... there's so much bad "psychology" out there it hurts. I'm guessing mainly because it's one of the "softest" of the sciences - easiest to get your head around - so nutjob assholes can study it, completely miss the point, and go around pretending to be experts. So much bad shit has been done to vulnerable people in the name of idiots trying to do psychology.

I have an idea - why don't you all stop blogging about each other? Seriously, it helps. You can TALK to each other. You'll feel like real people! And it has the added benefit of not making anyone look like they're making fuss purely to get f*cking comments on their blog.

Hurt, by NIN. The best thing about that one is that when you're not depressed or feeling very sorry for yourself, it's still a good song!

Just a million times no.

But then, I have issues around oral sex anyway. Or sex generally. The idea of doing it even though I didn't want to? Helloooo ten years of therapy and periodic hospitalisations. It just feels profoundly wrong. No one should have sex that makes them feel "depressed" and "kinda sick".

@44 The first time I met a few guys I'm now friends with, they put on the gingers episode of South Park. People are dicks, even the ones you make friends with, and for some reason saying really obnoxious things to readheads is okay. The internet has definitely exasperated it - especially all those bitchy Facebook groups. It doesn't bother me particularly when people yell dumb things or make dumb comments, but groups inciting murder for redheads, even jokingly? Yeah, that's upsetting.
