My favorite adventure in eavesdropping recently also took place in a restaurant. A boy about 7 or 8 loudly asked his parents if he and his sister (1) had been "planned." His parents laughed in an awkward sort of way and admitted no. But the kid wouldn't let it drop, saying things like 'yeah, I bet we weren't planned,' leading to some shhing and obvious distraction techniques. It was great.

In my experience people judge both sexuality and gender by hair length in this country. I am female and when I cut off my hair, I became a boy in the eyes of most strangers. If not a boy, definitely gay. US-Americans overall really are that shallow.

My advise to SGWCC - move to Germany. I just spent six months there and got hit on by lots of straight men.

And I found 5 Euros on the sidewalk yesterday evening on my way home. (In Munich, so not so strange.)

I just moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Munich, Germany. In Atlanta the "race problem" is at least discussed and generally acknowledged. In Germany everyone seems to pretend that racism doesn't exist. They think it is an American problem. I had a German asked me if I was allowed to play with black children when I was a boy.

Since Tripp was born in the end of December, it also means that they were camping in Alaska in the end of March when the average high temp is 33 degrees and the average low is 16. Maybe that is warm for Alaska but...

I think 'where is your wife?' was the worst of all the horrible questions. As if she is expected to be up there with him.
