commented on Christian Acting on Sincerely Held Religious Beliefs Arrested in Oklahoma
I am with @9 on this. Very sad. My guess is this kid was in the throes of some kind of psychotic break (age of onset for schizophrenia and bipolar is late teens and early 20s), and his psychosis expressed itself with vocabulary from his religious upbringing. So without knowing more I would blame poor mental health care before I would blame religion. But I am only guessing.

You know, a LOT of things cause apoptosis when dumped directly on a dish of cells grown in culture. (For example; caffeine, which is a potent cell cycle arrest compound, will KILL THE SHIT out of a dish of cells). This doesn't mean those same compounds will cause apoptosis when smeared on the outside of your skin, regardless of whether it's sensitive dick skin or not. Our skin is actually a pretty effective barrier for most compounds.

commented on SL Letter of the Day: The Ladies Who Lunched
@ 41: Spot-on. It's very hard to tell from the letter exactly how "affectionate" Emily was, and how discreet the LW was about the fact that Emily was a FB and not just a friend. BUT it's also clear that the LW didn't do anything *prior* to the lunch to diffuse any possible tension caused by introducing her trans FB to her mom. Etiquette fail.
(However, I agree with Dan that the mom could use some gentle schooling about pronouns & trans folks.)

@7: I think he's claiming that the basic bitches are "basic," not "amazing." But I may have been dazzled by the chartreuse crazy leg.

Y'all are MEAN today. Why shit all over someone else's happiness, even if it seems boring to you? I mean, I don't like pepperoni pizza, but you're welcome to it.
@2: I met my husband in my late teens, and we're still going strong 15+ years later. It's rare but it happens.
@15: Some people just have more trouble with anal than others. I've heard friends describe it as "just sliding in" when they get excited enough, whereas for me it took over 10 tries and a lot of work. I definitely would have used the word "conquered" to describe anal after the first time we achieved full penetration. It's a good word to describe a challenging situation.

commented on SL Letters of the Day: Coming Out Kinky & BDSM as a Sexual Orientation
@7... you commented a while ago, but add me to the chorus: I don't think what the LW was talking about was weird at all, except for his obvious focus on a fairly rare kink. And also... the sex talk at 5 is weird??????? When so many people have younger siblings by the time they're 5? You're supposed to pretend that the stork brought the baby and then when the kid finally enters middle school, you finally have the talk? My first sex talk was when I was 3 and my mom had my sister. It was all very age-appropriate and the conversation continued as I got older, until I figured out it wasn't just about P-in-V to make a baby and got too embarrassed to talk to my mom about it any more-- at which point I already had the major facts.
The more I think about it, the more I *recommend* a pre-K sex talk with your kids-- they're too young to be embarrassed and you have the opportunity to set the tone and relay useful facts before the schoolyard does it for you.
