SL Letter of the Day: Ruff Butt.
@17 Since nowhere in the letter did the LW say his girlfriend was trans I think you might want to brush up on female anatomy if you think most women have a prostate.

Does Everybody Still Hate Puns?.
I love a good pun. One of my friends in college would do themed punning for entire conversations. He once kept up talking in bird puns for a good 2 hours. Some of them were lame but the dedication and creativity to keep it going made it absolutely hilarious. The problem is that most people who pun aren't that creative.

Happiness Is a Warm Gun Dog.
When I moved into my first apartment on my own, no roommates, I had to leave my dog with my parents for the first couple weeks while I got everything unpacked and settled. The sense of relief and security when she finally joined me was much more intense than I had thought. I didn't realize just how much safer having my girl around would make me feel, she's a coonhound and even close to 12 years old she could scare off all but the most determined. She doesn't bark, she bays. I'd take her over a gun for protection, any day.

Please Stop Saying That Liza Long Is Wrong For Sharing Her Story.
No, I'm going to criticize her plenty because she has fucked over her son in a big way writing that post. Giving her son a pseudonym isn't exactly protecting his identity when she uses her own name and includes a fucking picture of him. She has labeled her own a son a monster for the entire world to see. How is that supposed to help? He's a child and this is going to follow him for years and may hamper his ability to change and learn to cope with whatever illness he has. That is not helping bring attention to the lack of mental health resources and it certainly is not helping with the stigma that mental illness has (in fact it is reinforcing it as something dangerous people have).
It would have been different if she had actually put some real effort into protecting her son's privacy but she hasn't. Or if she had written it in a less sensationalist "my son is a future murderer" way. I don't care what her motivations were when the end result is jeopardizing a 13 year old kid's future when that future was already shaky.

Washington Among the Tops in Voter Turnout.
@8 You would think so, I live in Maine which lets you register on voting day, makes early and absentee voting extremely easy, has no ID requirements, and is unusual in having no restrictions based on criminal record (including for prisoners), and we don't have universal registration. Some people just can't be bothered to vote. I would love to move to an Australian system where every citizen is automatically registered when they turn 18 and voting is compulsory (though the later is likely unconstitutional).

SL Letter of the Day: This Twin-Fetish Thing.
@20 No, just no. Circumstances matter and being cornered in a place you can't escape by a stranger (even an attractive one) might be hot in porn but not in real life. If I think of the hottest guy I've ever been hit on by (and damn he was hot, wish I was single so I could have taken him up on the offer) and then think of him saying the exact same things to be in an enclosed space, at 3am, in a strange city and that would be creepy and scary. There are circumstances where how attractive the other person is does not outweigh the inappropriateness of the situation and doing things that bring to mind sexual assault is a big one.

SL Letter of the Day: The Hole Truth.
Yeah, I think think should come up earlier than 3 months (depending on how soon into a relationship you have sex). Ideally around the time you start having PIV and are exploring each others bodies, and present it as an interesting quirk of your body and not a big deal and it won't be one.

Divers Fight to Outlaw Octopus Hunting in Puget Sound.
Octopus that are caught during normal fishing aren't females on eggs since once a female octopus lays eggs they stay with them non-stop and do not eat or leave their eggs for any reason until they hatch (the female dies shortly afterwards). I'm pretty opposed to hunting octopus and I will admit it's equally for emotional as well as ethical reasons. Octopus are incredibly intelligent animals and some have passed the mirror test for self-awareness so I think it's ethically questionable to hunt them like it's questionable to hunt other intelligent animals like dolphins. I also love octopus and seeing them hurt, especially for fun and not food, is emotionally painful to me.
