"If you actually care about affordable housing, you should be glad they like the fancy new construction. The last thing we need is more rich people competing for older, less expensive apartments."

And thank you for also getting it. What would they rather have? Rich tech types competing for what little affordable housing is left, or new condos you would have never moved into anyway?

I think a lot of the new condo buildings are ugly too, but if they weren't there things would be a lot worse than they are now.

@55 thank you for getting it.

Density is good for cities and most neighborhoods, especially urban neighborhoods. 6 stories right next to a train station shouldn't be a big deal? This is pretty standard in a lot of cities. It's not like they're building a skyscraper. Oh Seattle...

This is a problem in every city. The hardcore and the extremists bitch and moan about process and democracy, but if their views get voted down by the majority (you know, the 99% they claim to represent) they throw a fucking hissy fit.

People need to check their egos at the door.

@89 The smart thing to do is just to open an account first, and then switch things over throughout the month so you don't miss any automatic payments.

I haven't seen anyone make that point here yet, but it's a good one.

In LA the mayor is giving their protesters ponchos, and in SF council members are coming down to show support (even if the police are circling in as we speak). Seattle has a fraction of these people out protesting (what is it about Seattle that makes everyone so cynical?) and more arrests.

McGinn is gonna lose the last of his support over this.

Great, so now the Stranger has decided to speak for all non motorists and sunk down to the other side's level in calling this a war. I don't know if you've noticed, but there are some psychos out there on the road who don't view cyclist's life as worth anything.

Public safety and transportation are issues that shouldn't be politicized. But unfortunately it looks like everything nowadays is devolving into an Us VS Them battle.

I feel for you guys with the coming bus service cuts (if they happen) but let's be realistic here. PNW bus service is pretty damn good despite how it's practically set up to fail. Try living in NY and relying on MTA busses, or SF and MUNI. At least your transit authority hasn't killed anyone lately.

Previous 2 comments apparently don't get that one: this is Mudede, he brings up race in just about ever article he writes. And two: the racist perspectives were what he believed the 2 white chicks were thinking, not his own perspective.

Nevermind that they might have just been worried that a crazy person was on board, or perhaps annoyed that the bus was being delayed.

If I was smug asshole I'd be lamenting the lack of reading skills of our country, but let's be honest. Most of us are too fucking dumb or impatient to read anything.

This kind of stuff is why I read the Stranger, even after moving out of Seattle. Good article.

SPD just can't do a damn thing right lately it seems.
