He waited until he had three children before expressing how clearly he doesn't want to be a parent? He not only fails to uphold his share of parenting responsibility but also insists on competing with his children to divert the attention of their one actual parent? Dear god, poor kids. And poor mother!

LAW: How sad and scary to fall for someone who's conditioned to devalue you out of hand and doesn't seem to realize or care about the harm his actions have on others. Here's hoping whatever you write to him by way of goodbye will jolt him out of his willingness to attack others' dignity in the future.

@23, RE: Dan's quote -- aren't most anti-gay hate groups run by (closeted) gay people? There's nothing quite like hating something intrinsic about oneself to drive a person to hate (and publicly distance him/herself from) others who share the 'unacceptable' trait, right? I may be wrong, but I'm guessing Dan gave the Catholic Church a pass on this count only because promoting hateful attitudes does not seem to be its #1 priority.

From the context, pretty clear that the word used was "nigger", not "nigga". 'Nigga' means something like 'fellow human being'. 'Nigger' is a word whose power and evil is pretty incomprehensible to those who can't fall victim to it - it's in a league of its own. I'm white, and even I can see this. Not defending the attack, of course, just saying it's not a surprising reaction to the most powerful hate word in American English.
