I have never participated in a threesome although it has been, on occasion, a minor fantasy. However, I have often heard of them as a relationship disaster with one party of the couple becoming pissed off. Indeed, I used to be an acquaintance with a lesbian psychologist who did couples counselling for both gay and straight couples. Her view of threesomes was that they were ultimately destructive to a couple's relationship. Humans tend to pair-bond and sooner or later, one member of the triad will feel left out.

The California courts decision is tightly worded. I am not a lawyer but it would seem difficult to launch a successful appeal of this decision precisely because of the wording of the ruling.

Sometimes I wonder what is taught in journalism school. This was a non-story from the get-go. A Justice Department lawyer filing a third-party amicus curiae brief in a civil divorce proceeding which the judge was in no way obligated to accept. Indeed, given the law and the Canadian Constitution, there is no legal way that he could have accepted it.

Nobody seems to be getting the point here and I am ashamed that too many Canadians posting here are ignorant of how Canada is governed.

Canada is available as a destination marriage venue. But it has been Canadian legal practice for well over 150 years that a destination marriage will be governed by the Family Law of the jurisdiction in which the couple resides. In other words Dan, Canadian Family Law has no force in Washington State. If you and your husband wish to dissolve your Domestic Partnership, it must be done in accordance with the Family Law of Washington State, not the Family Law of Canada. For instance, Washington Law would take precedence over Canadian law in Washington State when it comes to division of property and child custody. Now you can get a divorce in Canada if you follow the residency regulations that apply to both straight and gay couples. Don't expect Canada to become the Reno for divorcing gay couples. It isn't going to happen.

I know that Americans are profoundly ignorant about politics north of the border but one would hope that living in Washington State might make you wiser. The Conservative Party in British Columbia most likely consists of one man. The Conservatives hold no seats in the provincial legislature and are unlikely ever to do so. The parties that count in British Columbia are the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party, both of which have gays in their memberships.

I used to know a lesbian clinical psychologist specializing in couples therapy, both straight and gay. She was no fan of three-ways saying that the reality of a three-way is very different than the fantasy and that they could quite often lead to break ups. To be honest, she said that couples who had enjoyable three-ways would probably not seek her counsel. While I have never participated in a three-way, those that I have known about did not work out well.

The Canadian military actively recruits in the gay community. Women are also integrated in all services. Neither has affected our military capability. Just ask the Taliban.
