As a man living at 1st and Pine, I see this all the time. I consider myself pretty emotionally intelligent and fairly able to shake things off, but when I witness these interactions, it does fuck up my head for a couple of hours.

Maybe there is less importance placed on becoming a working artist in those communities/cultures (I honestly don't know) so less of a demand for that kind of housing. When I went to art school it was almost all white or Asian students. Even tho the image of the poor starving artist persists, I suspect the dream of being a working arts is more born out of an affluent culture. I was raised in a white suburban utopia where I was given free range to follow my bliss. That just might not be a reality for people coming out of more impoverished areas so they may not make the decision pursue their creative skills and outlets professionally. I really don't know. Just a thought.

Blerg! This is my dream comedy line up, and I learn about it at work about the same time as the show is starting.

Me and my high school sweetheart used to do stuff like that. I wish someone had slapped us and told me what a douche I was.

I feel like the message is important however the execution feels pretty sophomoric. It definitely feels like the work of teenagers or 20 somethings.

@ Bobito - Granted it hasn't evolved much over the past 73 years, but I still find it a lot more enjoyable that your column.

Some movies are meant for such a niche audience, that I feel the shouldn't even be reviewed. As a geek and a fanboy, I loved it, but I wouldn't suggest it to normies.

You mentioned District 9. I think last year's Monsters would qualify for that catagory.

I had the pleasure of seeing Tron this Saturday, and maybe it's because I hadn't smoked weed in a few years, but it was the most rapturous movie experience sence Star Wars. I saw the original Tron when I was 12 and it had a profound affect on my dream imagery. I was a treat to go back to 'the Grid'.
