Yeah, it's a copy of that.

I'm so tired of these Black Youths and their head punching shenanigans!!! Why can't they be nice upstanding young men like that Iris Alba or Steve Erkel.

I am against victim-blaming. Rape is NEVER the victim's fault; it is entirely the fault of the person who saw another human being in a vulnerable state, and rather than helping them or simply leaving them alone, chose to harm them for their own gain. Such choices are inherently cruel and evil by every moral code we have, and they are the basis of many, many crimes (not just rape).

Of course it's important to protect ourselves, and if the LW asked me for advice I would tell her (from experience) that passing out drunk around people she doesn't know and trust completely is dangerous. But the most she is to "blame" for is not taking precautions to protect herself from people with evil intentions. The ENTIRE blame for the evil itself rests with its perpetrators.

You know, I've been thinking really hard and I can't think of a single instance when a man intervened or advocated for me when I was being harassed or threatened. When I grew up my dad was always very protective of our family, but I can't recall anyone else in my adult life. I've actually experienced women looking out for me on various occasions (and a woman once even protected me against a man who was trying to sexually assault me while I was passing out) but I can't think of any men who have done so. And that surprises me and makes me sad :-(

ETA: I just thought of one! A male friend once pushed a drunk, aggressive guy who was bothering me. So I guess that's a good example.

Hey, whatever. I once got into a vicious war of words with an evil, snarling, bloody-fanged lamb crawling across the bathroom floor when I was high on mushrooms. It later turned out to be a piece of kleenex. Like the lady said, you're all good.

Also, why was CIS (who is apparently straight) writing an article about trans people? What was the context and purpose? Where was the article going to be published? Did the people agree to be part of the article and if so, how much were they included in the writing process? "A draft prior to publication" sounds late in the game, and I'd be pretty upset if a friend sprung something like this on me prior to publication even WITHOUT the offensive content. I work in social sciences research and in my field its unheard of to write about human subjects without getting their advance permission AND allowing them to set limits on how they will be portrayed. I'm not willing to jump on the "CIS's friend is a hypersensitive asshole" train without more clarifying information.

@45 - Sorry, but there's no excuse for cunty behavior. Not abuse, not mental illness. We all have our personal crosses to bear and there's NEVER an excuse to dump them on other people's shoulders. I agree it's nice to show compassion for other people's asshole actions when we know they come from a place of pain, but that doesn't excuse the asshole actions themselves.

That said, I'm loathe to cast judgment on CIS's friend without seeing the article itself. There's a good chance CIS put something in there that was legit offensive (albeit unintentionally so.) That's why it's generally a bad idea to write explicitly about people you know, at least without getting advance permission and including them in the writing process.

Oh crap, how could I have forgotten "Hamburger Lady" by Throbbing Gristle?

"Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid. Also anything by Yes, King Crimson...prog rock in general gives me the heebie-jeebies.

And "Comfortably Numb" is some seriously freaky shit, but that might be too obvious a choice.

It's finals week and I've been super-horny for the last few days. I don't think it's being turned on by studying per se (although that would be an awesome kink to have!), I just think I'm stressed out and probably ovulating too.

I fucking HAAAATE runners and bicyclists going along the road like ninja assassins dressed in black, expecting cars to see them. There's no excuse for making people who are just trying to get home responsible for your life.

I'm a runner, and I either run in daylight OR I strap up with neon clothing, reflective shit everywhere, flashing disco ball lights and a damn circus marching band if need be.
