I wonder why CABAR's under the impression that Dan opened himself up to criminal liability by advising this person. The only possible crimes I could come up with that might arise out of giving someone advice are conspiracy and solicitation--both of which, in my jurisdiction at least, require the conspirator/solicitor to have intent that a felony be committed. CABAR's own link describes destruction of evidence as a misdemeanor, not a felony.

Even beyond that, though, all Dan did was give his opinion; it would be extremely difficult to prove that he actually intended for the caller to do anything at all. If CABAR actually is a lawyer, I hope to God he doesn't do criminal law.

@66: The man who died was my sophomore year math teacher. He and his wife were a dear, sweet couple who did a great deal for their community. I assure you that there are many, many people who feel worse about this than the selfish piece of shit who took their lives because he couldn't be bothered to call a cab.

I hope to hell she already HAS a lawyer. The idea that someone would bring a child into a three-parent family without first making sure all the parents' rights are protected is insane to me. If all she did is carry their genetic material, and they did all that on the down low without legal advice, then she almost certainly has no legal rights to that kid. The married couple could kick her out tomorrow and she would have little or no recourse.

That's unfortunate. I disagree with almost (but not quite) all of Lugar's positions, but he is a good man. He deserved better than for his political career to end in a primary defeat to a lunatic.
