The Bravest Woman in Seattle.
I've tried desperately to find news on a national level about this story. Why on earth is this not on the national level? It makes me sick. The only new information I've found about the trial is from last week after the pencil incident. What's happening now, and more importantly - what, as a community, can we do? Do we sit back and wait until KOMO-fucking-news lets us know what's going on for 18 seconds during their evening news segment? I've just never ever in my life felt as compelled as this to take action, whatever that may be. I realize that of course, there is perhaps nothing any of us can do, but...I just want to know that one other person feels the same way and cannot imagine sitting on the couch to hear the decision. I am so glad that The Stranger has kept this at the top of their page, but I fear that any paper who writes about this in the coming weeks will put it in a column on the second page of the paper. Of course, some people are harping on Eli out of concern for Teresa's partner's identity, but in some way, I just want to make her feel a little less alone, even if we never meet. I want her to know that there's an entire community who hears her. I don't want to stand back. I am proposing a call to action. Don't let this story slip under the rug. Let's do something.

Tyler the Creator Says: "If Tegan And Sara Need Some Hard Dick, Hit Me Up!".
You know, I sort of feel like in even asking us if we think she's overreacting, takes away from/contributes entirely to the whole reason she said anything to begin with. She didn't challenge him, she just took a damn stand, because no one else was raising a brow to this insanely fucked up dude, who's getting paid because he's an asshole ranting about homophobic/rapey/inappropriate slurs. So, in answering the first question - who cares if he really is? That's like asking if the stars in a certain reality show are reading a script. Even if it's all an act, it doesn't make it right. At all. And it seems like maybe the people who are letting him slide over this, are just falling back on that idea. So, after all of that laboring, she's awarded with the big question: Was Sara overreacting? To be blunt: Fuck that. It's like someone's burning down a building and the one person who cares enough to run into it, did, and instead of just honoring that fucking bravery, we're all standing outside acting like the person who ran in caused the damn fire herself.
I think it's just important to remember that this goes beyond a Tegan and Sara vs. Tyler the Creator issue.

Hello, I Am Fat.
Okay, you've come to the realization that you are OWNING your weight...but, I mean, just because you work for The Stranger doesn't mean you are entitled to 1) explain that in some beat up fashion, and then 2) defend it into the ground, and THEN 3) be a bitch to Dan, and ramble a little more because you are "Lindy West." I get it. I do. You want to the "I love you so much Lindy West" parade. But this is an abuse to this paper. It's hideous to demand respect via your professional (not so professional) job. With that said, go back to writing shitty movie reviews. People might love you because you're snarky, angry, demanding, opinionated, or x, y, and z. But I just think you're cashing in on something that many a fat lady can't. And I don't say that to knock weight. Fat, as #1277 said, IS fine. That's not the issue. The issue is your vehicle. Way to use the system, for no reason other than to make yourself feel a little better, or a little worse. Whatever, West.

Somewhere: Driving in circles. Literally..
Judas Priest, it's so easy for anyone to take one parting glance at this has-been review, you, Lindy West, have so carefully scripted, and say "You are so entertaining! La la la!" ...Which is exactly what you had in mind, right? But, I got so bored with your predictable wording that by the time I reached your ALL CAPS LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME moment, I realized The Stranger is not The NY Times, but at least their writer took the time to not sound like a jaded little hipster. It is not uncool to love Sofia Coppola. It's also not uncool to admit that her style is legit consistent, but certainly not dull, overplayed, or even close to a replica of Lost In Translation. If anything, Sofia continues to prove that she is capable of depicting the male protagonist in a way that other directors and writers fail to fully capture without throwing themselves into the pitfalls of typical Hollywood shit.
If anything, she has a distinct voice in the business, something that anyone could walk into blindly, and recognize as hers. She incorporates elements that are far too damn genius for you to even fathom. The audience who GETS IT and has a hot crush on cinematic aesthetics will surely disregard your forgetful review, much like I have just forgotten your name.
