Yeah, it's a copy of that.

Actually no the "gay-to-bi identity progression" is not "rare". A lot of bisexual men and women either first identify as gay or lesbian before discovering that they're bisexual and then coming out as bisexual, or they identify as gay or lesbian sometime during their lives sometimes because of biphobia.

Lance-Men's sexuality is just as "fluid" as women's is. Bisexuality exists in men just as much as it does in women, and bisexuality has always existed in men. Even if Dan Savage once did claim that bisexuality existed in women but not in men at all but he's biphobic. Yes there are men who later in life after identifying as either gay or straight discover that they're bisexual. Try actually studying human sexuality sometime.

@13-Eva-I was a part of the early gay/GLBT movement and bisexuals have always been a part of things ever since the start, despite how some people want to revise history or pretend that we were not there.

Dan Savage is biphobic and practices bisexual erasure since for decades he said how male bisexuals don't exist, supported the 2005 Bailey study, and even still in 2011 tells bisexual teens and young adults that they're eventually going to come out as gay/lesbian, and he likes to claim that somehow all bisexuals get involved in opposite gender relationships, and that gay men and lesbians should not have anything to do with having a relationship with a man or woman that's bisexual.
Yes he did write about the 2011 Bailey study but he's still biphobic and still practices bisexual erasure towards us.

Then again Dan's the biggest hypocrite and loves to run his mouth about stuff he knows nothing about which includes human sexuality and bisexuality. ;)

I would not take LOL sex or relationship advice from either the Pope or Dan Savage.

Savage is biphobic, transphobic, racist in that he does not like African Americans in certain states, 1,000% vanilla, and not an expert on human sexuality, how to have sex, or relationships.

If I want someone who actually knows what they're talking about when it comes to bisexuality, Trans/gender issues, advice about monogamous or even open relationships, and sex that's 100% consensual yet non-vanilla I'll go somewhere else instead of asking the "advice" of the bitter and conceited asshole drama queen Dan Savage.

@3 six five-Well said. Dan has been against bisexuals and has practiced bisexual erasure and biphobic for decades.

@5 bassplayer-Bullshit. You haven't been paying attention to Dan then otherwise you'd see how yes he is biphobic and does practice bisexual erasure.

@36 Well said Skipper Jo. Dan Savage is a hypocrite since he loves to trash bisexuals and for decades he claimed that we don't exist and he also likes to claim that if someone is a teenager or young adult and identifies as bisexual that they're somehow not really bisexual and are going to come out as being gay or lesbian. He also blames bisexuals for the shortcomings of closeted gay men and lesbians.

Too bad it's taken Biphobic Dan Savage decades to realize that bisexuals exist, and he actually defended Bailey's first 2005 study and said how it was actually valid and true that bisexuality doesn't exist in men, when everyone else knew that it was junk science. Dan wrote this in an advice column and in the bisexual documentary "Bi the way" he said it on camera.

Most gay men are not biphobic and do not practice bisexual erasure like Dan Savage did for decades and still does when he wrote about how bisexual identified teenagers and young adults are going to eventually just come out as gay or lesbian.

See here: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/bisex…

Here are some quotes from Dan Savage that show his biphobia through the decades:

“Avoiding bi guys is a good rule of thumb for gay men looking for long-term relationships. Outside of San Francisco's alternate-universe bisexual community, there aren't many bi guys who want or wind up in long-term, same-sex relationships -- monogamous or not.”

“I'm not saying bi guys are bad people, or they don't make great one-night stands. Bushes, bathhouses, and sleazy gay bars are crawling with bi guys.”

“There are definitely some people who should fool around with bisexual men: OTHER BISEXUAL MEN! Jesus Christ, bisexuals -- if straights and gays treat you unfairly, then why not turn to each other for love and comfort? Judging from my mail of late, there's an unlimited supply of easily offended, extremely verbose, highly ethical bisexuals out there looking for love. Fuck each other!”

"Bisexuals all disappear into heterosexual relationships!"

One person wrote in asking about bisexuality and he told them how bisexuality exists in women but somehow it does not in men and he claimed the false porn study done by Dr. Michael J. Bailey at Northwestern that's a joke of a study.

@151-ScienceLizard you're telling Dan to contradict himself by telling bisexual teenagers that it's great that they're bisexual but how it's also good if they stop identifying as bisexual and identify as gay/lesbian which is bisexual erasure and biphobia.

This is just telling Dan to do more of the same biphobia and bisexual erasure that he's still doing and has done for decades.

I do agree with the bisexual woman who posted above you who said how Dan shouldn't practice bisexual erasure towards teenagers or young adults, or even adults or anyone at all and then declare that all bisexuals simply must come out and be out constantly.

I know gay men and lesbians who are way more closeted than myself and other bisexuals are but Dan says nothing about gay men or lesbians who are closeted and not out.

@146-Ratfish thanks for proving everyone's point that Dan Savage is biphobic and does practice bisexual erasure even if he claims he does not.

Sorry Dan I don't buy this for a second. It's PR BS and lies from you. You're biphobic and everyone knows it. You're just showing how little you understand about bisexuality and male bisexuals. Of course in your world you're never wrong and have never apologized for the biphobic and transphobic things you've said in the past and this makes you a hypocrite.

Gay men like you, and lesbians who are biphobic too are the reason why some male and female bisexuals want nothing to do with the so called GLBT "community". No not all bisexual men and women get into opposite gender relationships. I know lots of bisexual men and women who appear to be gay or lesbian from the outside but they're bisexual and are partnered to other bisexual men and women, or gay and lesbian men and women.

I've been out as bisexual for decades and most of my male bisexual friends have as well even though they've experienced actual discirmination and bigotry from gay men these gay men and even lesbians are just mirroring the bigotry and discrimination that they get from Heterosexuals and a Hetero society.

Christ even MORE bigoted biphobia from Dan Savage.

The guy is talking out of his ass when it comes to saying how male bisexuality does not exist. Savage is not a sex "expert" or someone who knows anything about human sexuality at all.

He's no better than Dr. J. Michael Bailey or the "ex gay" people.

Why not just say how you hate bisexuals and trans people Dan? Everyone knows you're bigoted towards bisexuals and trans people since they can read it in your replies.
Jan 24, 2011 JamesT42 commented on Savage Love.
Dizzy spins-Thanks for spreading even more biphobic misinformation and hate.

Most bisexual men do not eventually come out as gay men.

Savage is still very biphobic and transphobic even if he and you want to claim that he's not.

Clearly you who don't comprehend what bisexuals face in straight and gay community, from what I can read. I've already talked about how the gay and straight community both discriminate against bisexual men and women over the supposed "hetero privilege". At the end of the day, when gay men and women refuse to understand or accept bisexuals, or worse, berate them because they can "pass", that's one part of the community discriminating against another part. But you apparently want a de jure analysis instead of a de facto analysis because the de facto analysis negates your sense of victimhood.

I will simply remind you that bisexuals are included in most (if not all) major legislation (DADT, ENDA, hate crimes, etc), and that some of those laws are written without comprehension of the full spectrum of sexual orientation is not my fault, I didn't write them. It's not my fault that Gay, Inc pushes what happens to same-sex couples, all of whom are then referred to as "lesbian" or "gay".

You're demanding an answer which will fit your own personal agenda and belief system, and that's not going to happen. You consistently choose to ignore the reality of what bisexual men and women go experience, and want to hang your hat on a faux-legal analysis which you think proves how "easy" it is to pass as a straight guy if you happen to be a bisexual man who marries a woman. This is exactly the kind of nonsense I'm talking about when I see gay men discriminating against bisexuals. Get over it.

like many gay men (Dan included), you have no clue what it means to be bisexual. Every attempt I have made to explain the reality of bisexuality has failed miserably because we are not on the same page, and quite frankly I'm not sure if it's because you cannot grasp the concept or refuse to grasp the concept, although I' leaning toward the latter.

I think that, like many straight and gay folks, it's just easier for you to put people into easy-to-define boxes, and since bisexuality tends to be not-so-easy to define, it's simply dismissed because of ignorance.

OUT bisexual people are going to be faced with the same homophobia that gay people receive. It's. That. Simple. It's not like it's ok to be bi and in the military! Yes, bi people can and do get in exclusive partnerships with members of the opposite sex, in which they can sometimes – but not always – "pass" as straight people and recieve the benefits that come along with being straight. But even in those cases, they still aren't straight.

As for Dan's "advice" about not getting involved with bisexual men that's BS, if you want a monogamous relationship which is VERY VERY VERY rare among gay men anyway-just look at how many gay men have open relationships or just pretend that they are "monogamous" while they cheat on their male partners, then don't get involved with someone who already has a partner, or if they have an open relationship understand that their partner and their relationship with their partner is always going to come first and should come first.
