What is Sawant's position on Daesh? That it's George Bush's fault? Maybe, but what would she do now?

The defeat of slavery was a victory for Northern capitalism, the kind we practice today. Saying that Harriet Tubman doesn't belong on the 20 dollar bill is basically a religious argument, that Harriet Tubman is a saint whose image shouldn't be tarnished by money.

She's not merely a socialist, she's a member of Socialist Alternative. I can't vote for that.

@7 and other comments connecting foreign policy to this issue. If you'd like to see "defense" spending reduced to pay for shelters and treatment for the homeless, you'll find a supporter in me. Unfortunately, you're not calling for that. You're saying that the city should house the needy in unsafe and unsanitary conditions on public land.

It's one thing to defend the right of a landowner (churches and others) to host a tent city, but it's another thing to give over parkland for the purpose. Parkland isn't owned by the administrators making the decisions, it's owned by the public and must remain available to the public. I like Licata, but I think this idea is really really bad. Why don't supporters of the change raise some money and buy some land for the purpose?
