"So rejecting labels isn't brave and it isn't interesting—it's not even a rejection of labels."

Perfectly stated.
Mar 5, 2014 tniel commented on New Poll Shows Highest Support for Gay Marriage Ever, Pope Comes Out for Civil Unions.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until I get an adequate response: Why hasn't the Catholic Church lobbied with the same intensity to prevent divorced non-Catholics from getting remarried at City Hall in conformity with Catholic teaching the way they have been trying to prevent non-Catholic gay people from getting married at City Hall?

If they really believed in the "sanctity of marriage" as much as they claim they would have been doing this all along. But they haven't, which means this is strictly about anti-gay animus and nothing more. They've been called out and the pope knows it. He's trying to make up for lost time, and while that may work in the third world, in the developed world people will see it for what it is: a pitiful attempt at reclaiming an entire generation of young people who recognize bigotry when they see it.

Jan 26, 2014 tniel commented on Slog Bible Study: 1 Timothy 2:12.
Maybe Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Seattle should be more consistently biblical and immediately fire all female teachers. While they're at it, they can fire all the divorcees, and those who have had sex before marriage, use contraception, and/or masturbate. Now let's see, after all the "sinners" have been fired who will be left to instill those precious Catholic values into the little Catholic children's impressionable minds? Inquiring minds want to know...
Jan 15, 2014 tniel commented on Ohio Catholic School Teacher Fired Because He Got Engaged to a Man.
Until all Catholic employees muster the bravery to "come out" for using contraceptives, having sex before marriage, having sex outside of marriage, getting divorced without the benefit of an annulment, masturbating, not to mention all the non-sexual sins human beings routinely commit, nothing will change. It's just too easy for the Catholic Church's hierarchy of repressed homosexuals to single out those gay people who, unlike the rest of these "sinners" cannot easily "pass" once they obtain a state-sanctioned marriage license. And remind me, how long has the Catholic Church been looking under rocks to monitor their employees' state-sanctioned marriage licenses? Just curious.

I haven't read the book nor watched the movie, but I don't have to in order to know what I need to do in the future to help solve the problem: vote Democratic every single time.
Jan 8, 2014 tniel commented on Catholic Students Revolt After Church Fires School Vice-Principal for Being Gay.
I just heard that a lesbian teacher at Eastside Catholic came out over the radio yesterday. When will all the other faculty members who use artificial birth control "come out" as well? What about those who masturbate or have ever been divorced without the benefit of a Catholic-approved annulment? What about those straight people who have violated Catholic teaching by having extra-marital sex or sex before marriage? Will they too not stand with these brave gay teachers or will they continue taking the easy route by "passing" in order to keep their cozy jobs at others' expense?

Yes, how very courageous of the Archbishop, considering how liberal Seattle is on gun control. He must have expended so much political capital on that one.

"Hope and Change" changed and adapted the instant the Supreme Court handed down "Citizens United," and Team Obama is being incredibly smart to hit Romney hard and often with the truth. In my opinion, the harder, the longer, the better.
