Nov 4 Mindymoo commented on Voters Repeal Anti-Discrimination Law in Houston After Hate Campaign Targeting Trans Women Using Public Toilets.
A twelve-year-old girl was just raped in Houston by a man in a public bathroom. Not a man in a dress "pretending to be a woman", but a man. These scare tactics are just bullshit, and open up transwomen to more violence and discrimination.
Sep 11 Mindymoo commented on Survivor of Homeschooling Moved By Joel's Story.
I finished the last year and a half of high school in a sort of "home school". It was an online high school taken from home, with real teachers I had to report to, real assignments and tests and deadlines, and I graduated with a real diploma. It was great for me because I have numerous health issues and was no longer able to attend school on a day to day basis. It was actually created with people like me in mind: folks too sick to go to school, or pregnant teens/teen moms who didn't want to drop out and get their GED. If people are going to be homeschooling their kids, there needs to be a lot of oversight it in, and perhaps use the model that my high school did, so you make sure the kids actually LEARN something. Also, the school lent us our own computers which were for school use only, so if shit was going on at home, you could have a way to contact your teacher about it. And since teachers are mandated reporters, it could give these kids a little bit of help in abuse situations.

Since he clearly has no issue with couples divorcing with how he dodged that question, does that mean he is a supporter of married gays who want to get divorced?

I can't dismiss all Christians on the basis of their beliefs because of the truly good ones there are out there. Jimmy Carter? Pro choice, he's for gay rights, he's a champion of women's rights, and he was a southern Baptist minister! He even broke away from that particular denomination because of the hatred they spewed. I also have amazingly loving, supportive, progressive Christians in my family that try to be a Carter-style Christian, rather than a Davis-style Christian. And they don't even give me shit for being an atheist. In my family's case at least, they're sick of these dickbags giving modern-day Christians a bad name, but at the same time, maybe they should be out there raising a stink and using their voices to let the world know that Christian is not synonymous with ignorant, hatefilled douchebag.
Sep 2 Mindymoo commented on Savage Love Letter of the Day: My Son Just Came Out As Poly.
@4 I am monogamous and childless with my wife, and we are childless. We are just happy with each other. We don't find the need for an other, we just have fun with the two of us. I honestly can't imagine sleeping with someone other than someone than my SO, because what we have is so precious, and no problems have creeped up on us in these five years. It floats our boats and we are happy.

Dan, once again, you are so right. I came out to my dad at the exact same time that I told him I was going to marry my beloved. It was at the dinner table, and I took both my dad and my wife by surprise. He looked at me, shrugged his shoulders, and asked if I could pass the potatoes. Later that evening, he told me he just wanted me to be happy, and if she made me happy, then he's happy. I was terrified to tell him, because he's a (now former) military man and had made homophobic jokes in the past, but his reaction to that and his love for my wife has showed me that a lot of that was a bunch of macho bullshit that was all for show, as uncomfortable as it made me. (And yes I did call him out on it.) I am lucky that most of my family has been so supportive of me, and for those who aren't? Screw 'em, they don't matter. I have an awesome wife, the support of my parents, my Busia, most of my aunts and uncles and cousins, and it made the coming out process so much easier than I ever imagined it would be.

@3 I came to post just that. When I legally marry my spouse, it won't be a "gay marriage", it will just be a marriage. It's an amazing feeling, and I never expected it to come so soon. I thought the country would be dragged kicking and screaming into the right decision. Now it's time to celebrate. Congrats to everybody, thank you to everyone involved, but remember that the fight is not over. We still need federal non-discrimination protection for the LGBT community as well.
Jun 16 Mindymoo commented on Savage Love Letter of the Day: Family From Hell.
Honey, when me and Cindymoo get married, there will likely be fewer than 25 people there. And you know what? I don't care. Those are the people who love us, who don't pay lipservice to our relationship, and who really want to celebrate with us. Some are family, some are friends. So fuck your family who can't be happy for you, who can't RSVP, who can't be straight with you. You are better without them. Dance, eat cake, look fabulous, and have a wonderful time. This is about the start of your life, not placating the douches in your family. Your brother is an ass, as you well know. I wish you and the missus nothing but the best, sto lat, na zdrowie, and all of the best wishes for your upcoming nuptials. Don't let them take away from your happiness or your day. You're building a new life, so toss away this toxicity. Don't let it mar the occasion.
May 20 Mindymoo commented on Dave Goodbye: Five Notable Performances by Seattle Musicians on Letterman's Show.
Though he's not a Seattle musician, I always loved when Warren Zevon was on. His final episode before he died, where Dave gave him the whole hour and he spent a bit of the time playing with the band, still brings tears to my eyes to think of it. Warren and Dave were good friends, and he was such a brilliant musician and songwriter.
Apr 16 Mindymoo commented on I Sat In on My Son’s Sex-Ed Class, and I Was Shocked by What I Heard.
When I had sex ed back in 2001, I heard horror stories about the girl who had sex for the first time, used a condom, yet was impregnated with twins and contracted HIV. I learned that condoms almost always fail, as does the pill, and that you may as well use nothing. Gay people? We don't exist. I trolled the teacher a couple of times, asking her about the female orgasm and what the fluid was when women ejaculate, "learning" that it is impossible for women to ejaculate. Basically, I was taught that sex is evil, disgusting and awful, and you should only share it with the person you love and are married to. And no wonder my school was full of teen moms.
