Never Heard of 'Em.
It definitely is elfin wedding music two-hits-of-acid quinoa-mainlining (???) music for sure, but it's just such a classic. It's such a must-have for ambient music. Hell, I've been listening to this record over the past couple weeks as I've been doing calculus work and it seems to have helped somewhat in a sort of placebo-y way, at least to get me into the mindset to do abstract mathematical work. Very easy to listen to for extended periods of time, too.

Learning to Love Lotus.
Wow! Not to be a complete dick, but personally, this has to be the first article of Mudede's that I think I've absolutely loved through and through with no qualms! I came to Flying Lotus much the same way, through J Dilla, and actually it's funny, I had a similar reaction! The first time I heard some of his work, I thought it was great, but digging deeper, I was disappointed on first listening, and then the more I listened the more I discovered. Funny how that works! In any case, both artists have done some awesome work, and this is a really great article. More like this!

The McKenna Files.
Ehhhh, even if Rob McKenna and his shit-eating grin make me want to hurl, this is making a mountain out of a molehill. It doesn't shock me that he pulled this crap, nor does it really mean that much as far as his gubernatorial campaign is concerned.
Look, we all get that he's a real piece of work, I'm not disagreeing with that assessment of him. I don't want him in office any more than the next guy, but... really? He campaigned out of his office? That's supposed to shock me? Am I supposed to be super pissed off that he campaigned on government time? Hell, I'd actually rather he campaign than try to get anything done, mostly because him getting things done is equal to him fucking shit up even worse.
Yes, he's full of crap, he'd be a god-awful governor, and that plastic smile of his just creeps me right the fuck out, but if you're going to rag on the man, at least bitch about something legitimate, don't just tattle on him about something completely unrelated. That's just mud-slinging, and I'm not impressed with attacking a politician for attacking's sake.

A Good Dispensary
Is Hard to Find.
This is an embarrassment. It's a tragedy, honestly, that recreational marijuana has to masquerade under the guise of medical marijuana. The entire thing harms pretty much everyone involved. Legitimate medical patients who could benefit from cannabis have to find out who's honest about providing medical care and who's in it because again, pot is awesome. Non-legitimate patients who just want the ability to go pick up some weed from a vendor like a regular human being ought to be able to do are forced to fabricate a condition, which ultimately chips away at the claims of legitimate patients, and only a real dick would take pleasure in that. I'm still waiting on the day when the government will just go "Oh, fine, just fucking take your pot and go home already," but it's still such a challenge to cut through the bullshit. Come on, is it really so hard to let people govern their own bodies?

I, Anonymous.
Whenever I hear people going off about how irresponsible it is to raise money for a dying animal, I always have to wonder what would happen if their own pet suddenly required surgery, and then let's see how many starving children they save then.
No, an elderly animal is not *more* important than people. But if showing an animal some care is stealing that care from starving orphan children, then why do we even keep pets in the first place? All that money could be spent on some homeless dude, right?

The Steve Jobs of Hiphop.
Without J Dilla I would have never, ever listened to Hip Hop in a million years. On the train back from Bellingham one time, I listened to the entirety of Donuts, and I stepped off that train ride understanding why it was that I needed to listen to more.

Savage Love.
13 is not too young an age to realize that you enjoy other males. To the contrary it's roughly right on the mark, but even if the boy DOES turn out later to be (insert any orientation you can think of here) instead of gay, he has an incredible, wonderful gift. There is nothing on Earth better for LGBT kids than a loving, supporting, understanding family. If he does turn out to be gay, which he very well might (My own personal fantasies of other males started rather spontaneously at age 11. Turns out they were right, I'm gay), he's already off to a wonderful start, at least as far as his family is concerned.
I AM rather worried about him already coming out to his school, that part could be a major concern. He's probably still in middle school if he's only 13, and middle school can be easily summed up with a simple reading of Lord of the Flies, so it would be a concern. However, reading this first letter from the dad no less was the highlight of my day. Thank you a thousand times over, DSS. You're a wonderful parent and a wonderful human being!

Shit Is Fucked Up and Bullshit, But
Here Are the Stranger Election Control Board's Endorsements for the November 8, 2011, General Election.
Lord, really? Right off the bat, pretend-bitching about not being able to be there EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY at Occupy Seattle. Could we maybe pause for a second and just agree that this isn't a full-fledged revolution until things actually start, you know, happening? Until we actually start seeing change? Maybe we have, maybe I'm just a dumbass, but until we actually see the walls start to crumble, forgive me if I think you're jumping the gun--by a lot--in saying that it's a revolution. It WANTS to be a revolution, hell, I'd like all sorts of different kinds of revolutions, but until it HAPPENS, until it actually DOES SOMETHING, you are protesters.

Cops Arrest Several Occupy Protesters (Updated).
Oh lord, this noise. I've seen posters for it all over Evergreen's campus. "Occupy Olympia," "We are the 99%," and all this bullshit. No, you aren't "the 99%," you are a select percentage of people who decided it would be a good idea to go out there with this phrase "Occupy _____" as though that actually symbolizes anything. Once again people under the guise of Anonymous (as a longtime member, please, don't use our name for this sort of thing, it's... embarrassing. Certain members make this shit, we still aren't sure who, and it's problematic. Please ignore our involvement until further notice) have declared that they're going to fight the good fight and squash capitalism, though it's a lot of fanfare for... nothing, really. So far I've heard nothing but "capitalism is bad!" coming from these people and their incessant posters put up all over the goddamn place. "Capitalism is bad" is the same thing I've been hearing for years. I haven't heard a word, however, from my fellow moderates who suggest that corporate bigwigs certainly aren't your friend, but the answer isn't a sudden jarring revolutionary shift over to full-blown communism.
There's a lot of wooly idealism which pops up every now and again in the form of protest like this. Honestly? I never pay it much attention, and this whole thing will blow over to no real effect, just like every protest before it has produced... nothing. No protest with this sort of vague "we don't like X! Please change it somehow I guess!" message will work, nor will any of the copycat protests. They don't work. They haven't before, they won't now just because you thought of a cute, meaningless slogan.
But hey, go ahead and have your little fun sitting outside, making some kum-by-yah drum circle with your pals, smoking pot and growing dreadlocks or whatever it is hippies like you do (I know because I live amongst several thousand hippies pretty much just like you, so hey, I'm no stranger to all this noise, I've been to a festival or two before). Just please be sure not to cover up every goddamn inch of bulletin board space with the same meaningless, hollow leftist jargon, please.

Seven Days in Utopia: One Hundred Years of Clichés.
Goodness, nothing like a personal opinion to get the Stranger's Christian readership crawling out of the woodworks, I guess. As a former Christian, I can... actually not really understand that at all, given the circumstances. The movie sounds horrible. So in the end, he's convinced to give up golfing... to go to church. He can't have both? That's an almost aggressive level of idiocy. He would have to be trying, actively trying to look for an excuse NOT to golf, if he were serious about golfing in the first place. Even when I was a Christian, I didn't think I was believing in God IN PLACE of anything else, it wasn't like "Gee, I'd love to go get my shit together, but I'm afraid I have church today!"
Christians, are you serious? Are you really defending a movie that suggests that God must come at the cost of the sport you love? Get it together.
