I love how he psychoanalyzed her without knowing a SINGLE THING ABOUT HER. OR KNOWING A SINGLE THING ABOUT THE HUSBAND and their relationship. Okay, I'm done shouting.

The one point I'd like to make is that your awesome nephew has incredible strength to come out to his family, probably knowing this would be the result (I assume he knew there was a black sheep aunt who had been shunned). Please tell him how awesome and brave HE IS!

I'm straight but I come from a fucked up family so I understand the sadness, even now that I have a wonderful husband, great children and am part of a very healthy and accepting community of people. I have tried to create a life that does not involve my family of origin. But whenever I am forced to deal with them I feel overwhelming sadness that lasts for weeks. It's hard to escape that and you never overcome it, even after creating a new life. Take care of yourself and bravo for your kindness to your nephew.

Little known fact that the hormones that are increased with breastfeeding decrease libido. 24 hours after I weaned my daughter I was ready to go... You know what I mean. The difference was night and day so I know it wasn't just that my libido was slowly improving. The next time I had a kid I weaned him earlier (8 months vs. 1 year) so that my husband and I could start up a little sooner. We had the hindsight to know that once I weaned my son things would get better, and they did. So it was easier dealing with the lack of libido knowing it would return soon.

True story: I never watched the Monkees on TV as a kid, but somehow my 10 yo daughter discovered them on YouTube many years later, and became a huge fan. Thanks to Netflix, we got to relive the magic that is the Monkees, and I have to say the show was quite sweet and innocent. When you compare the offerings on the Disney Channel, I was THRILLED she wanted to watch the Monkees instead. Last summer they came to an outdoor theatre in our area and I took both kids to the concert. My kids were only a handful of youngsters, otherwise the place was PACKED with old hippies. Good times. Farewell, Davy.

Yipee! I love hearing a good story out of Virginia every once in a while. Although I'm not in her district I live close by. The state as a whole is still very backwards but here in Northern Virginia we tend to be a bit more open minded. I checked her website, and I promise you Dan she is on record as pretty liberal on many issues. She even has a whole page describing her stands on many LGTB issues. http://www.janethowell.com/

#6- Didn't it bother you that the virgin's assessment of sex with a condom was that it wasn't real? And that sex without a condom provided more "intimacy"? I can't remember his exact words, it was something to that effect. I was disappointed Dan didn't call him out on that. That kid has some pretty rigid ideas about what good sex is and isn't, and he hasn't even started his sexual career! Now I need to go inform my husband of 14 years that we haven't been having real sex all this time....

I don't know if this is what the police officer meant, but the frequency of domestic violence is about the same in homosexual couples as it is hetero couples. That includes female pairs. I remember reading that research a long time ago when I was naive, and was surprised, thinking that after everything gay people had been through, they'd be more enlightened. But unfortunately violence in interpersonal relationships is pretty universal.
