5th Columnist dear, I'm sorry to hear you don't like what I had to say, but I'm glad you have a new cliche you can trot out.

And perhaps if you read what I wrote, instead of being a bit fragile yourself, you would see that I'm not necessarily opposed to Ms. Oliver. I'm just stating a bit of reality, at least as I see it. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings

But Comte dear, here's the thing: Taking kids on a field trip to see the opera or a museum is one thing. Having art and music education in schools is quite another. The grown-up groups can take care of themselves - that's why they always have executives and rich people on their boards, and why they all have millions to spend on "world class" nonsense - but we let the kids down.

What we need is art and music instruction that is integrated into the school curriculum from Kindergarten on, and taught by instructors who are there everyday. I've think we've really fallen down on that, and overloaded on the stuff that gets commissioned or produced because they have to spend some money.

No one who wouldn't vote for Murray because of a sex scandal is going to vote for a candidate who says we don't need a police department. And the Times would certainly never endorse her.

If we had an opposition party in Seattle (instead of the WA GOP, which is all "Hee-Haw", all the time) there would be a danger, but no one in their right mind wants to be publicly associated with the Republicans in the city of Seattle.

Unless someone pops up in the next few days, we've got more Mayor Murray.

Comte dear, of course you are correct, but the County has something similar. The King County 4culture page says "Using percent for art funds from County construction projects, artwork is commissioned to tell the story of place, create engaging public spaces, and bring forward important issues of ecology, site use and history"

And maybe it's time to scrap it and start over. Public art programs help existing artists, but do nothing for aspiring artists. Maybe it's time to turn that upside down.

Why don't we just direct the 1% for public art fund towards arts education?

One can't go to pieces at the news of every every shooting in Chicago. We'd all be in a constant state of collapse whenever we opened a newspaper.

I respect SAFE for taking this step. I don't know how much Omari is involved in the organization, so it could be a guilt by association sort of thing, but they did the right thing by clearly separating themselves from him, acknowledging that Jewish people and African-Americans have a shared history in the Central District, and stating unequivocally that they do not deal in anti-Semitic stereotypes.

An Macro dear, if your suspicion is true, what was Omari looking to accomplish by saying those things?
Apr 9 Catalina Vel-DuRay commented on Is the Case Against Ed Murray Politically Motivated? Here’s What the Lawyer for His Accuser Says.
Socrates17 dear, I hate to be indelicate, and I would never kiss and tell, but there's a lot of guys around town whose genitals I could describe, and there's a lot who know what mine looks like. Mind you, I haven't welcomed the multitudes that some have, but I wasn't exactly cloistered, either. And if someone is a celebrity or a politician, word about their equipment and their kinks gets around. It's as simple as that.

The same can be said of apartments. I've been in a lot of them, and I can tell you all about their layout.

I don't know what Murray did or didn't do, and I'm not commenting on that. I'm just saying that in a community of men who enjoy the company of other men, people talk.

Ok then, Let's run Nikita for Mayor and Sawant for a citywide council seat and watch what happens. I could be wrong (lord know it wouldn't be the first time), but I think both would find themselves with a lot of leisure time after the election. Outside of Our Little Slog, the citizens are very dissatisfied. A lot of it has to do with decisions they made (ST3, school levies, etc) but they are angry nonetheless, and the homeless issue could very well sweep some real doozies into the council. Luckily, the GOP in WA doesn't really have their act together when it comes to the cities (They're still pining for Ellen Graswell and crying into the McGuffey Readers.) so we may be able to soldier on with our greying Seattle political elite.
