Pragmatically, it's important for the price to be high enough so that non-users won't go through buying up all the pipes for a lark. (Also, amusingly, they can't drop it below a nickel because Canada doesn't have pennies anymore!)

The Seattle University "timely notification" email last night was way more interesting than the usual "someone got robbed near 12th and Cherry" emails we get most of the time. Sounds like they were getting ready to evacuate the residence hall that's right by that bus stop when the all clear came.

My tuxedo cat, Alfie, has the cutest curled half-moustache. He is also a super cuddly terror of a cat. (He has the housekeeping skills of a toddler: "ooh, things on a table? now they are on the floor!")

But we love him very much. Black cats ftw.

While people in Sandy's path will be most concerned with staying safe right now, by next week many will be assessing the damage and incredibly grateful for FEMA's emergency loans department...I know we certainly were while assessing earthquake repairs in 2001.
