It's worth remembering that the herpes stigma was invented by people who developed medication for it and found out that not enough people cared to build a market base. So they manufactured shame and stigma so people would buy their drugs.

Holy shit. Run. Run now. Run yesterday.

I completely checked out after getting to the bit about the offer of parking pass and gas, and... ugh, I'm dozing off thinking about it now.

Regardless of what the rest of the letter says, sometimes people who enjoy spending time together are just incompatible relationship-wise. Forcing that relationship to work anyways just causes misery for both people involved. End of story.

@12, In case you ever see this (as it is months later but I was just sometimes going back over old posts of mine, as I do sometimes): It's a handful of things: Her obsessions with particular pop culture figures she wouldn't shut up about, a creepy fascination with the Jonas Brothers despite being in her late 30's, going out of her way to talk about people we knew a decade ago and wanting to know if I knew how they were doing despite my repeatedly telling her I'd stopped talking to them years prior. I think the final straw was the conversation we had about a friend of hers who claims to be fey-blooded and can do magic, and she believes it fully and sincerely despite the lack of any evidence outside of her own head.

How much you want to bet this kid has an online boyfriend out in California who put the porn bug in his ear? One who'll pick him up at the bus station and sell him to the nearest sleazeball and move to the next the moment he gets out there?

Hillary's campaign has been declaring victory and paying off the media to do it on her behalf since this whole thing started. I'd be willing to vote for her over pretty much anyone the GOP will let get in front of a camera (I'd be willing to vote for a blind, three-legged dog over anyone the GOP will let get in front of a camera), but she's been running this with the same gusto as the GOP even if the message is less inflammatory.

I think some folks here are underestimating just how much arcane bullshit colleges and the student loan system pull to spring more debt on you, make sure you're financially enslaved for life, and all that. If you dig into it, you'll find a lot of financial supervillainy beneath the surface.

It's all too easy for someone to look at how heavily they've been hit, figure "Fuck it, I'm never going to do anything more than tread water until I die, this will never be paid off" and just stop counting. That's how you lose track of $90k in debt.

@10 -- I think it's a matter of the amount of friction involved, long story short.

I know a bit about what this is like. Not exact, but close enough. I was in an on-again-off-again long-distance FWB relationship with someone. We'd get together a couple of times a year at conventions, hang out, sometimes screw around, but she drove me nuts about half the time. But there was a part of me that liked what we had, and she was absolutely in love with me, so I decided to set things up so we could spend a bit of time together away from the stress of a convention and see once and for all if we were genuinely compatible. So I drove the few hours to her house, picked her up and brought her home, and we spent a couple of weeks together (and yes, a convention was part of that vacation).

And it just didn't work out. We have a few common interests, there's enough there for a friendship, she's eager in bed, but relationship-wise we're just completely incompatible. She drove me fucking nuts. By the time I drove her home, it took almost everything in my power to not just dramatically spin the tires and tear off down the road like a cartoon the moment she got her stuff out of the car. We still talk every now and again, and sometimes I privately lament that we couldn't make it work, but them's just the breaks.

@3 -- I imagine it's because people wanted to make sure everyone saw them trying to save her, or at least mentally associate them with her. Just in case.
