The GOP's Assault on Language and Reason: First the "Death Tax," then "Partial-Birth Abortion," Now "Job Creators".
@7 -- "uncertainty" can never and will never be eliminated. Even if the Democratic Party suddenly disbanded, there would be no way for businesses to be certain that someone else won't come along to raise taxes, or that other bad things won't create problems for them.
But there was uncertainly during economic booms, too. "Uncertainty" is just a right-wing excuse to try to explain why they are still arguing that putting more money in the hands of "job creators" works even though it's been completely failing. It's as though I sold you a "guaranteed" weight-loss pill, and then when you continued gaining weight, I explained that the pill was working fine, but you're being "sedentary"--if you want the pill to work, you have to be exercising 24 hours a day. And then I try to sell you more pills.

SL Letters of the Day: DTMFA-a-thon.
My take on "Do selfish people not deserve ANY relationships?" As a selfish person myself--and it took me time to realize I was being selfish--I would ask this: Are they willing to try to change? Do they stop their selfish behavior when it's pointed out to them? When you suggest therapy, are they open to it, as opposed to dismissing it out of hand?
If the answers to all of those questions are "yes"--and if they aren't doing really beyond-the-pale things, like actual physical abuse, or, say, insisting on being allowed to have unprotected sex with others--then there might be hope. If not, yeah, DTMFA.

Marcus Bachmann, Queen for a Day.
Now THIS doesn't sound like a gay man at all, nu-uh, no sir:
Shopping help comes from another quarter, as well. Before Vice President Dick Cheney's visit this past summer, Bachmann's husband, Marcus, hit the stores - "he's got a good sense of style" - and came home with "a sleek, simple hourglass dress with a yoke collar! in winter white." He even bought a matching coat and shoes. "I just slipped it on."

SL Letter of the Day: The Fourth G.
@14...Dan has always made that clear. GGG means you're open to considering new things and that you try to be accommodating when you can. It most emphatically never meant that you have to do things you don't want to do.
As for the original letter: as others have said, this is most clearly not your fault in any way. It's always good to try to learn from bad situations, so if you want to learn something, consider whether there was anything that might have been a warning flag that you missed, or if there's anything that attracts you to someone that can be a bad sign. If the answer is yes, work on that. If it's no, don't worry about it. Either way, don't let yourself feel "like a whore" simply because someone TRIED to treat you like one.

SL Letter of the Day: Mom's Argument.
Following up what @7 said about projection, could there be a better example than this mother saying that HE can't stand to be around someone different from him?
As others have said: don't try to win. Stick to your guns, but your goal isn't to convince her that she's wrong; your goal is for her to get over her fears and treat you as a mother should treat a son.

Dear Florida Gun Owners.
Ah, yes, the Republicans, the party that wants government out of healthcare. Well, out of helping people GET healthcare. But writing the exact script for every doctor--that's fine. And that script apparently is that you can't talk about anything being dangerous except abortion, which you MUST say is dangerous.
