@35: Yes, I heard about the 71 y.o. taking out the two robbers. I don't think that situation is similar to last night's mayhem. I was asking about whether an armed citizen was ever able to undo a "shooter vs. crowd" scenario.

Maybe I'm truly ignorant on the topic (a serious possibility), but I'm trying to recall a SINGLE incident in which a legally-held firearm was drawn in order to stop a crazed gunman with semi-automatics blasting into a group of people in a public place. Has that ever happened, ever? Seems to me that a proven record of the prevention of greater violence would be a coup for the NRA and would be held up as an example accordingly.
