I like Anita Sarkeesian. I think this series will be seen as a seminal text on the history of videogames when the medium gets full recognition as art and is integrated into art history some decades down the line. However, I do wish she had talked a bit about how race inflects this trope (within and beyond videogames), as she did give a chunk of time to savage apes kidnapping lily-white women. I hope it comes up in part two.

@25, It is not my responsibility, as a Jew, to educate ignorant people who unconsciously make antisemitic remarks. We still do, as a people, a lot of educating on Jewry, but it's the responsibility of ignorant people like this representative to actually go and learn. And he hasn't taken that time. And when it's pointed out that he hasn't taken that time, his response is to expose his ignorance again. He may not have a burning hatred for Jews, but it does demonstrate his complicity in structural antisemitism (not to be confused with institutional antisemitism) and his unwillingness to do anything about it.

@13, Hm, the current show actually did make me think about the 1984 "Primitivism" show. Both are predicated on the idea that look-alike = mean-alike, and very careful choices were made to make sure formal "affinities" are/were spotted between works. McEvilley notes the teleological Hegelian spirit in the the Western art-historical myth, and points out its presence in that review of the 1984 show. That "self-realizing tendency of Universal Spirit" is played up pretty strongly in the 'Inventing Abstraction' show, too.
