Dan, I think what happened here is that she MISREAD your, "you're playing the victim card," as "you're playing the victim," took it to mean "you're PRETENDING to be a victim," and went from there.
That's the only interpretation that makes sense to me, because her explanation in the second e-mail makes no sense at all. If she had known you didn't say that, why would she have phrased her question on the card the way she did, knowing that you could not possibly speak to why you'd done something you never did?
"Getting you to open this" is a silly excuse, and it doesn't mesh with all her outrage there still about you not remembering saying what she now claims she always knew you didn't say. I bet she didn't realize until she received your reply, looked at the column again, and went, "Oh, shit!" Then she was embarrassed and made up a flimsy and inconsistent excuse.

I was positively surprised that Prudie mentioned an open marriage as an option. I don't see how it's going to help in this specific case, but yay for her for telling the letter writer to consider it.

In the age of the internet, there are just a lot of idiots out there who think they can be powerful and impressive by sending anonymous death threats to people they disagree with. I don't doubt for a second that some people sent them to this hateful, bigoted, disgusting church. And while they may deserve it more than most, seeing how they cast the first stone, I agree with @35 that that's only going to make them feel even more righteous and justified.

So I think the "They are my FAVORITE and I want them BACK!" is indeed a cover for something else. My guess is she just can't stand the though of him "gloating because he won," and wants them back to assert her power.
Which is perfectly within her rights.
I second #6's suggestion to (threaten to) take him to small claims court. It keeps her legally unassailable and is just as embarrassing for him. Plus she might actually get them back, or, if she's very lucky, be awarded their worth in cash. That'd be even better because then she could buy a new set.
