Oh my god! There's an ugly building in Ballard?

Aw, man. I actually liked The Conversation. Non-rambling interviews and community call-ins? Sounded like a good format to me.

Actively skipped Weekday (Weakday?), though. Couldn't stand Sher, much like everyone else here.

Yeah, not a Snowden fan. Fleeing the country, and actually stealing government property - not really what I would call a whistleblower. Notifying Senators, Newspapers, and such - that'd be a whistleblower to me.

He gained tinfoil-hat credibility when he fled the country and started courting asylum in places with far worse civil liberty records.

@20 - :) I was a rare Greener that studied the humanities (Shakespeare, Chaucer, Russian Lit, etc.) instead of Environmental Science or Cultural Studies. Which isn't to say there weren't classes there that would come close to fitting your description.

Loved that college!

@14, @12 - My point at the time (and still now) is that we make interesting distinctions. Both those substances produce an non-natural effect in the body. As ScienceNerd said - these are all substances that disrupt normal bodily function. Alcohol, pot, mushrooms, LSD, etc, etc. The reasoning behind why one of two comparable substances better for you than the other kind of fascinating to me.

That said, big fan of alcohol. Never really liked any of the other stuff I've tried. But I never refused to try them on the basis of whether or not they were "more natural".

This reminds me of several conversations I had with my fellow students at Evergreen, years and years ago.

Also add to the mix: I had a long talk with a friend at that time, about their drug preferences. They didn't make sense to me:
"I don't do LSD - it's a harsh chemical."
"But thumbs up for 'shrooms?"
"Yeah! They're natural."
"You know you have those hallucinations because they are amazingly poisonous, just not poisonous enough to kill you, right?"

@5 - Agreed. Hubris is my favorite theme form C&P.

And I'm not a fan of Snowden. Maybe my views are too black and white, but no matter how noble the cause he still broke the law (several?). Good intentions do not erase that fact. Let him justify his actions in a court, where they can be weighed with evidence and a vigorous defense.

Because each side of this issue has painted him as either:
1) A noble crusader who saw abuse and exposed it
2) A hubris-instilled narcissist who sought employment for the purpose of leaking information.

I suspect the real guy is somewhere in between those two.

Surely there is a victimizing-the-victim middle ground you can find between child and "thug-in-training".

Man goes looking for a fight. Gets in a fight. Shoots someone when he starts to lose the fight. And THAT is the most generous train of events for Zimmerman.

Paul -
I do see what you're saying - it is definitely a hallmark of a Superman movie to have Kal-El going to extremes to stop collateral damage. And while it could have been inserted into the script, the story as it was presented really didn't give Superman any opportunity to stop and save anyone - he was saving people by going toe-to-toe with kryptonian titans.

I do wonder if the devastation in Metropolis (which he didn't really stop) will actually be a plot-point in a sequel. I can totally see it being a cornerstone for a pro-earth Lex Luthor. There is a great little exchange in the Avengers when Cap confronts Fury about the Hydra weapons, and Fury says it was all in reaction to Thor showing up. I can see that same sentiment fueling a very interesting and sympathetic Lex Luthor.
