The GOP's Losing Streak.
I don't know if it's Boehner's collapse, the NRA's stunningly tone-deaf press conference, or maybe just the solstice, but it does seem like more light is in our future.

@13. All horsepower, no steering wheel. See 2008-12 financial crisis, primarily driven by similarly well educated folks.

Enjoyable to think how the bitterness of not being confirmed must have been heightened by the intellectual non-entity that took 'his' seat. Also nice to know that he got to live a good long time stewing in that bitterness.
For all its ills today, America would be a far worse place if he'd been put on the court.

Seattle Times Company Describes "Significant" Subscriber Backlash to Its Political Ad Buys, Won't Be Doing That Again.
As much as I'm with you on this, your use of the word "significant" in your headline does not match its usage in the quote. Significant in the quote applies to the # of subscribers who opted for the protest stop, not the number of subscribers who contacted them. As much as I wish the latter to be true, an accurate parsing of the quote does not support the assertion in the headline.
Check my other posts on the topic: I'm quite opposed to the Times doing this and voted by cancelling my subscription last month. Eli, you're a terrific journalist, but on this one, you need to restate the headline to better reflect the actual quote.

Hey Seattle Times...? How'd That Political Advertising Experiment Work Out for You?.
The Times called for the THIRD time yesterday after I cancelled in mid-October. The caller was clearly in a phone room, with many other voices audible behind him. The deal just kept getting better the longer we talked, finally down to a $1/week for 40 weeks. But its not about the money, I said. It's about trust. Say what you will with your editorials, but the ads were a step to far. He gave up at that point.
Seattle Met had a good piece recently about the continuing plunge in circulation, leaving them off the top 25 newspapers list for the first time.
