The Monday Morning News.
I've abandoned the Wall Street Journal due to the poor quality since it was sold to News Corp and now reads like FOX News. It's a shame, the old WSJ had some decent reporting.

Power to the People.
Seattle City Light definately had/has better service than the investor owned utility where I live currently (outside WA state). I have never experienced so many power outages or such a hostile attitude on the part of utility "customer service" as I have now. Unfortunately, where I'm living now, the city owned water utility is even more incompetent and unfriendly than the investor owned electric utility. At least the electric meter readings are correct. The city can't manage that even after several months of calling! Goes to show that city owned utilities aren't always better - depends on how accountable the politicians are to their citizens.

The Death of Google Reader.
@28 Has a real point, it doesn't pay to rely on anything from Google. While Google reader was something that lots of people used it apparently did not result in enough revenue for Google. No wonder they're killing it.

If I Were Benevolent Dictator of Washington State....
No doubt Goldy would want to institute a "modest" tax on the wealthy. He's clearly not wealthy and thinks he is getting something on the things he wants to spend other peoples' money to fund.
I doubt Goldy would (truthfully) be happy with a not so modest tax increase that affected him personally (as well as others in his circumstance and more wealthy) and was used to finance things he felt were of no benefit to him personally or that he believed were not beneficial to society as a whole.

Plastic Bag Ban Blamed for Theft Spike.
I, too am more interested in the e-coli, norovirus, etc. content of the reusable bags customers bring in. I have noticed at my local supermarket they gave all of the cashiers hand sanitizer. No doubt they need it considering all the nasty reusable bags they have to touch. It is evident that most of those bags have never been washed.

Proof That Down-Ballot Supreme Court Races Really Matter.
@1 yeah taxes will go up, but think of all the great stuff you will get - not just education funding, roads, public health services, etc. With all the potential new revenue, maybe they can implement some of the ideas proposed on Slog like free public transit everywhere and free wifi/broadband.
