Because the Steubenville grand jury was convened to get information on a specific crime (the gang rape of a minor and subsequent coverup). This grand jury was convened to help build a database of anarchists. And while a lot of anarchists do commit crimes, so do a lot of communists, Republicans, and Democrats. We're talking territory that covers everyone from the dumbasses who light condos on fire to Gandhi and Dorothy Day and, uh, Alicia Keys.

Something I've seen in other countries that I've liked a lot is seat assignments. In the States, sometimes you have to get there super early if you want to get a good spot (or even just get a full row if you're going with friends/family), and that means you have to eat the crappy theater food so you don't die of hunger in the theater, and you have to sit through an endless series of ads. You reserve your seat beforehand? You can go out to eat wherever you want, and then show up 10 minutes after the official start time in order to just barely hit the end of the coming attractions.

And the ticket price is big. No one wants to gamble on a Hollywood movie that might be entertaining but might be terrible, and no one wants to gamble on an independent movie that might be amazing but might be the dullest thing ever. Cut the ticket price in half and you double the number of people willing to take risks on movies.

Hey! Not all old people like him. I went to go see The Hobbit with my father, and when the Oblivion trailer came on he turned to me and said "that looks like it would've been really cool if they had gotten someone else for the lead."

And I think it's because he's such a crappy actor that you can only see him as Tom Cruise. He never actually becomes any of his characters, and he's not an appealing person at all, Scientology or no Scientology.

Bitcoin supports are right - what makes a currency a currency is the confidence placed in it by the people using it. Native Americans placed confidence in shells, so they became currency. Pacific Islanders placed confidence in giant stone wheels, so they became currency. We do the same with pieces of green paper. Unfortunately, bitcoins are a currency that receives its confidence from online drug dealers, libertarians on reddit, and some really desperate people in Cyprus. Which I guess is cool if that's who you want to do business with...

I have a hard time figuring out how Michelle Shocked is unforgivably offensive and worthy of boycotts and the MWMF is "intriguing." The only difference I can see is that Michelle Shocked is clearly having some sort of neurotic breakdown while the MWMF phrases their discriminatory policies in measured, thoughtful language - but that makes Michelle Shocked seem far more sympathetic than the MWMF.
