Best Bette: Fasten Your Seatbelts--Bette Davis turns 100

After being cast in lightweight fluff in the early 1930s, Bette Davis took her career by the reins, guiding herself to stardom on a path no actress has traveled before. Known for chewing scenery like bubble gum, Davis could also conduct her electric intensity with subtlely and restraint, bringing authenticity and vivid life to a wide variety of complex and memorable movie characters in classics like All About Eve, Jezebel, The Letter and of course Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Bette Davis turns 100 this week, and The Grand Illusion is celebrating her life and career by showing a collection of her finest films.

Love Songs

Love Songs, a musical film that defies expectations of relationships, love, and sexuality. Christophe Honoré has created a charmingly scruffy musical about love and loss in contemporary France. In a 'Chanson' style reminiscent of George Brassens and Serge Gainsbourg, this is a poetic and touching film about being in and out of love, set against the bewitching backdrop of present-day Paris.

The Show To End All Shows--a new Circus Contraption masterpiece!

This joyful romp to oblivion will draw inspiration from the circuses of excess in those decades of decadence, and feature "traditional" circus acts such as ball balancing seals, aerial mermaids, and pink poodles, all re-imagined by their human counterparts in Circus Contraption and scored by the incredible Circus Contraption Band. Their latest twisted take on Americana also tells the story of the show that must go on, despite all evidence that the show, maybe even the world, will be extinguished before the closing act. At Theo's Chocolate in the old Red Hook Brewery warehouse in Fremont.
