That said, I would like to suggest to the lot of you commenters who already posted the following:
1. There will be no land war in Iran. That would be foolhardy to say the least.
2. If Israel attacks --and they will do so ONLY when there is zero media buzz about any possibiliy of attack-- they will do so with precise strikes against specific targets, there is no way Israel will start a land war with Iran.
3. The war has already begun: Israel's targeted assassinations, the Stuxnet and other viruses, and the massive currency and trade moves made by Europe at the US's behest, and Iran's counter-moves in the last few months clearly indicate that the gauntlet's are on the floor.

Why do you think Iran is trading it's energy resources with China and India for yuan, rupees, and GOLD? And not the traditional petrodollars? Did you know that the US caused 40% Iranian inflation in the space of a week back in February?

It's on babies, it's already on. Nation-states are moving away fom the "invade-&-occupy" model of warfare, and are fully engaged in the battlefields of currencies and computer networks (oh, and surgical strikes & assassinations).

Obama has resisted starting yet another war/debacle in the middle east, despite saber rattling by the media and the right.

If he were to actually get sucked in to all the blather and change his mind and go to war with Iran, I would change my vote to disapprove. But as long as he keeps us out of yet another pointless war, I got his back.

However, I am not actually sure what treaty we're bound by to protect Israel at all costs, no matter if it's a pre-emptive war of agression? Geneva Conventions? HAH! United Nations Convention Against Torture? HAHA! There's just a little bit of our track record recognizing treaty obligations.

Remember, the Head of State of Iran is in fact a dear old man who loves us all very much but takes almost no public role in government. That's President I'm a Dinner Jacket's job. The HoS has powers like a queer combination of our POTUS and Rome's Pope, but since he lives quietly, he's doubly vulnerable to the bs both western orifices have to suffer. All this forces us to publicly treat the Islamic Republic like petulant children.

Obama's course is the only sane option.

I find the fact that the Netanyahu(sp?) government hasn't already declared war on Iran, either overtly or de facto, somewhat comforting.

And I totally agree with you about President McCain, although in my mind, McCain stroked out in 2009 and it's actually President Palin (well her handlers anyway) that has our troops pinned down in their green zones trying to withstand the second insurgencies in Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Detroit...

Why is it assumed by pretty much everyone in the political establishment, including Obama, that if Israel attacks Iran that means the US must go to war with Iran as well? We are different countries and it's simply insane that we allow a much smaller, weaker country interested in its own internal politics to direct American foreign policy. The responsibility for this is of the American political establishment, especially Obama's. If we go to war on another Middle Eastern country with no real plan, no end in sight, no money and no vital security interest, it'll be Obama's fault and the current sabre rattling is bringing the ghost of Iraq past creepily into view.
