What wins the day for them is the live show. The way the mix a hipster doo-wop almost L-Boogie style is interesting. I think thats what sets them apart more than being lesbian lovers. Im a hater of gimmicks, but this one feels about right. Would never listen to an entire album however... either way, Props!

At the risk of being a crusty old nofunnington – did you intend the faint praise of this statement to be so damning? Do you have such low expectations for gay female rappers that the absence of a gayladyagenda is worth noting? Considering much of what has dominated hip hop for years now has been straight men bludgeoning listeners over the head with their sexual orientation as a gimmick/selling point, would it really be so disappointing if two dykes directly confronted that paradigm?

That said, I get what you're saying. Their image is a strong enough statement all its own, and the soft power they wield by neither making a statement of nor apologizing for their identity is arguably more potent than being confrontational about it. I just think you diminish them when you make it a point to offer praise because they have the decency to not remind you their demographics don't fit the standard mold.
