I'm not knocking it, really, it's a funny video and obviously an exaggeration. But their business model is not in question, and it's entirely advertising. They sell ads and place them next to the vast amount of page/video/email/map-views that they control.

Not that it matters. This product will eventually come to market and flop when people see how useless it is in real life.

Same with these glasses, if people have to pay a monthly fee to use them, then I'm sure the ads will be less intrusive or even absent, but if there's no fee? They've got to get their revenue somewhere...

Wait, no they didn't. People like to talk about how Google's "core business" is ads, but if you actually look at, well, any of their products (save for YouTube), they have very few if any ads. Their business is selling ads to others, not to cover their own stuff in ads, especially mobile.

And the fact that this was the _instant_ universal reaction to something so cool and promising (in terms of our tech future), it gives me some confidence that these will end up being "ad opt-in" for the norm, instead of the opposite.
