I agree with #19. Trisomy 18 is a death sentence. Another indication that God doesn't mind abortions at all, as {"50% are ..... stillborn"}.
After all, if God really wanted a child to get born, don't you think an "all-powerful" god could overlook such a small thing {to him} as an abortion, and simply get that "soul" born to another mother? {Silly question!}
The truly compassionate thing would be for the Santorums to have aborted this child, who will NEVER know any "quality of life". "Abominably selfish", truly. Catholicism is the CRUELEST....... it is better when Catholics IGNORE the Vatican Hierarchy's rules, even better if they quit the Catholic Church and admit their secret disbelief in the ridiculous dogma fairytales.....

She has Trisomy 18 (one of the genetic disorders that is caught during routine prenatal screening - a procedure Santorum opposes). It is a death sentence. She is extremely unlikely to make it even into her teenage years. Most kids born with this disorder (assuming they are among the 50% who are not stillborn) do not survive to their first birthday. Their short lives are a series of surgeries and hospitalizations (read: pain) which they cannot understand (read: fear) because of severe mental deficiencies and developmental delays. It's abominably cruel. And a quick visit to the support groups of parents who have decided to have these children anyway reveals that it's also abominably selfish. The talk is typically about how much the pain and suffering of their children has touched their lives and how happy they are that they respected god's will and brought a child into the world to torture for a year or two because it makes them feel special. It's sick.

Our only hope of entertainment now is yet another resurgence of Newt bitterness as the last not-Romney standing.

Failing that, the most entertaining republican primary in decades has ended, the crazy train is no more, and we'll be stuck with boring and painful general election campaigning for the next 7 months. Ugh.

Life with Trisomy 18 is a living hell (from what I've read. no need for links, just google it). Most kids don't make it past 1 or 2. They typically die because heart failure, they literally can't breathe, or they get pneumonia. Very rare cases can make it to their teens. Those "lucky" ones have severe developmental disabilities.

I'm sure Santorum considers every breath that his daughter takes to be a blessing; and while he's not necessarily wrong...he's also worth millions of dollars and can afford excellent health care, as well as the luxury of dropping everything in his life to attend to his kids.

Most of us aren't so lucky, and we'd do what I consider to be the compassionate thing: abort Bella before she has to go through this suffering. Santorum wouldn't even give us that option.
