Mr. Steen had a life-long sexual relationship with the family octopus, who was also his first cousin by marriage on his mother's side. His well-known (at least to the family) sexual fixation on cephalopods was known to manifest on all sorts of uncomfortable occasions; once the police were paid off to hush up an unfortunate incident at a sushi restaurant, and the aquarium was always off-limits to Mr. Steen. He lamented his unfortunate proclivities, going so far as to attend a special church camp retreat on three occasions, but he always returned to "my squishy." "At least," he told me sadly, "She's female."
