While the argument that same sex couples shouldn't be able to be parents is discriminatory, there could be one benefit that comes out of them succeeding.

If the public can interfere and block same sex couples from having children in the name of putting children's welfare first, then by that same argument, the public should be able to interfere in the families of opposite sex couples.

A lot of these posts are about “broken” families: kids born “out of wedlock” or parents who’ve divorced, and blended families. I can’t recall any (maybe one?) that were about a FotF-sanctioned family structures that imploded.

Josh Powell, Steven Powell – prime examples of FotF-style family structures that went bad. The survivalist they were looking for a few weeks ago. But about this story and the one you posted on Tuesday, Dobson, were he paying attention, would simply say that since they had a child before marriage and she had an older child from a previous relationship that it was doomed to fail (or however he’d put it).

I hate FotF, I resent Dobson. But most of these posts don’t address their theory. These stories are an indictment on our society that we are failing our children.

Dan posts these stories as an ongoing response to the argument made by many on the right that having a mother and a father is inherently and always a better option than any other arrangement, including havening two parents of the same gender.

It is not meant to indicate that heterosexuals are bad and that their failures are a win for gay people. It is to show that there are many instances where children would have been better off without their heterosexual parents and better of with different parents, even if those parents didn't fit the One Man, One Woman model.

When anti gay folks claim that it is ALWAYS better for a child to be with two heterosexual parents we say, even if the parents are abusive or deranged? And these are just examples that prove that there are abusive and deranged parents out there who fit the model that the right often claims is always superior.

It's not a win for anyone. It's a pin the balloon that is their argument that gay people should never have children because children are always better off with heterosexual parents.
