'The customers are fun, and seeing the new stuff is fun, but I'm more aware of the politics and stresses emanating from the other "associates" this time. It's also really sad to hear people talk about how after the big financial crunch, XXX decided to be a badass like all the other USA dirtball corporations, and they fired everyone full time (except a few mgrs.) and then rehired at lower wages and only part time so they got rid of their bennies. Such pigs! So one of the longer time people is working at Starbux because at 20 hours you can get health bennies for your fam. Another works at Fred Meyer for the benefits and more hours. And others are always putting notes into the binder asking for more hours, etc. It's a dog eat dog world out there. I'm always feeling fortunate for my situation in life, but being out in the hardscrabble retail world, where it's sell! sell! and more sell! get someone to get a VISA! Sell these items so we don't have to ship them out! upsell! etc. ugh. It does, however, make me happy that I'm just a temp worker. When Jan comes I can say Asta-la-vista bebe!'

How about in the sense that, as a franchisee, he is essentially buying into an already established brand that has invested millions, if not tens of millions of dollars into building itself into a success, long before he ever became part of it. He therefore gets to capitalize on that success without having had to contribute to it.
