Try this: in the headline here, replace "woman-abusing" with "ear-biting."

In that case, the comment thread wouldn't be all, "HE DOESN'T BITE EARS ANYMORE!" because everyone would understand that it referred to the infamous incident, just as I assumed that "woman-abusing" here referred to his infamous PAST of abusing women.

But I really am tired of defending someone who is, in the eyes of society, not a reformed convict and vegan Buddhist, but instead the Once and Future Rapist. David, if you haven't already, you should really consider signing up to volunteer at a prison sometime. You're a journalist, I'm sure they'd be happy to let you teach a writing class once a week (your weak segues aside). Maybe actually try to understand what the system entails.

No one, especially not me, is saying to forget he raped someone. I am saying, if a person has shown clear signs of growth, rehabilitation, and repentance since their punishment, you can focus on the way the person behaves now, rather than casting back twenty years to their worst moment to define them.

@5 You didn't cite his record. You used present tense in the headline "Woman-abusing" not "former" or "convicted" - the implication of which is that Tyson is still abusing women. Of which you offer no evidence only innuendo.

David, unlike most women abusers in this country (and certainly unlike Chris Brown or Charlie Sheen), Mike Tyson went to prison (three years), lost his career, renounced violence, and embraced a pacifist lifestyle in word and deed. This is as close to the literal definition of 'reformed' as I can think of. I'm perfectly fine with Mike Tyson having a career and making money again.

Again: He was punished, and then he reformed. On what basis do you give him so much shit, especially considering the other wastes of flesh still crawling around that will never face justice?
