There is another letter sent to the YDR who published this article on Fr. Virgil Gabriel Tetherow that is interesting.

The problem with pedophile clergy is a problem with homosexuals in the clergy. They have established networks in every diocese and particularly in religious orders. These networks are responsible for protecting the pedophiles and also are very effective in destroying the reputation of their enemies.

D. W. Downey

SECOND LETTER:

Abortion and the Slander Business
A Second Reply in Defense of Fr. Virgil (Gabriel) Tetherow to the York Daily Record Article, York's Planned Parenthood protests a protester

The feature article on the front page of the Sunday York Daily Record (YDR) entitled, Planned Parenthood Protests A Protester, was not exactly a late breaking investigative story. The scandal in the Scranton diocese occurred nearly five years ago. Fr. Virgil (Gabriel) Tetherow has helped at our Mission for over 3 ½ years and on a regular basis for the last 18 months. My statements quoted in this story were given to the reporter last January; that is ten months ago. So why is an old story finding itself as the feature article on the front page of the Sunday paper?

The answer is that Planned Parenthood is loosing money. Fr. Tetherow was quoted in the YDR article as saying, “abortions are no longer provided” at the York clinic. The YDR is anxious to preserve the abortion business in York. They think they can help Planned Parenthood by damaging the reputation of Fr. Tetherow, the reputation of the Members of our Mission, and myself. It is really that simple.

Fr. Tetherow and the members of Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Mission have been at Planned Parenthood every week in every kind of weather for years. Just in the last few months, at least seven women have left the abortuary without ending the life of their child and, for every one that leaves after entering there are several that never enter in the first place. The preaching of Fr. Tetherow, the prayers of the faithful, and the graphic pictures depicting the mutilated remains of aborted children present to a woman a stark depiction of what exactly it is that she is intending to do to her child. By the grace of God, this has produced wonderful results in awakening the consciences of many. Planned Parenthood wants this stopped and YDR wants to help.

YDR would like everyone to believe that Fr. Tetherow is a danger to the York community and a danger to us. The implication is that I and the other members of our Mission have failed to exercise due diligence to examine Fr. Tetherow’s background. The implication is libelous. Not only did we look thoroughly into Fr. Tetherow’s background with regard to the charges and the criminal disposition, we look thoroughly enough to come to the conclusion that he is not morally guilty of anything and his involvement in this scandal was a form of entrapment. A serious charge indeed. Something an investigative article might want to follow up with a question or two, like, “What evidence do you have”? A question like that is only useful if finding the truth has anything to do with the investigation. But, in this case, it only muddles the YDR agenda.

A previous letter, Persecution for Justice’ Sake, which documented some of that evidence, was submitted to the YDR. It was rejected for publication by editors on the grounds that, even though it was supported by verifiable facts and sworn testimony from eyewitnesses, it was far too inflammatory for the YDR investigative work. And although the article accused no one of criminal activity, by citing specific people, places and times it substantiates findings of fact that compel certain conclusions of law that the YDR is uncomfortable with. In my opinion, if you open a question on the front page of the Sunday paper as an “investigative” work you should have enough integrity to follow the evidence wherever it may lead. The letter is now available on our Mission web page.

Fr. Tetherow is open to answer any personal inquiries on these questions but sees little merit in speaking with reporters. He thinks his contribution will have no bearing on their determined ends and only serve to legitimize their work with the appearance of objectivity. That opinion is supported by this current article. The daily newspaper will soon be an historical footnote. The Internet has exposed it as hopelessly biased and ideologically driven in its efforts to form community opinion in its own image. It makes this bias transparent, and once it is recognized, it is deeply resented.
Well, now, with all the praise that has been heaped on, I am tempted to take on Stella, but I can't figure out where to start so instead, I'll take it in a different direction.

When I read my first review of this film, I could not decide whether it was really going to be about blackness or overweightness. Anthony Lane in the New Yorker described the lead character like this,

...her face so filled out that the play of normal expression seems restricted...

I can not get that idea out of my head when thinking about this movie. What does it mean that Precious is so heavy that it colors (no pun...maybe) her interaction with the world?

I get the sense that Precious does not "triumph over" anything, which is always a relief, for me, in a movie. I like when there is no arc. Think of Vonnegut's description of the lack of arc in Hamlet. But what is it that she does not triumph over?

Diagnosed at 43 by my doctor doing a manual exam. The lumps were in an area that is difficult to screen, and indeed the mammogram I had earlier that very same day, came back clear. I'm lucky she is a Nervous Nelly and didn't have me just wait a year for my next exam. As it is, I had 2 lumps removed and got to keep Li'l Lefty. If I were to have followed the suggested changes in guidelines, I would be lopsided at best, and quite possibly dead. The irony, (which is in no way lost on me) is that the meds I am currently on to prevent a recurrence of the breast cancer have left me at an increased risk for other reproductive cancers. So the day before Thanksgiving I'm going in for a biopsy to see if indeed that is the case, since I am exhibiting symptoms that may be uterine cancer.
I will now go and sing a rousing chorus of I Enjoy Being A Girl. Feel free to join in.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just not build the Tunnel (at least right now)? Of course, Gregoire says state constitution demands that those funds be spent on transportation projects, but it seems like if there was ever a time to sort out our priorities, it would be now. I suppose making sure some of us aren't sitting in traffic sipping our lattes too long each morning is more important than say, schools or health care or those other socialist programs.

And why not learn as a society to accept girly boys and manly women? And how much of this is pushing from the medical and psychological community?

I don't think Ill ever understand the desire for trans. people to get surgery. Still, their body, their lives. But I still say there are ethical issues that need to be addressed with regards to the doctors who perform these surgeries. A doctor wouldn't amputate a perfectly healthy arm just because someone feels his arm shouldn't be there.

I agree with your anti-AA statements. It's a cult. And it certainly makes people boring.

Check out Rational Recovery, if you must. Some of its better points are challenging the myth of alcoholism as a disease, and it doesn't have the religious hocus pocus that accompanies AA.

As for @37 with "many recovered alcoholics I find to make absolutely terribly company and conversation; as if the whole magnificence of a man's life could be reduced to the struggle against one of a wide variety of temptations; and that is the only way others will eventually perceive him."

Awesome.

I'm agreeing that it is abuse, perhaps (and I say that seriously doubting it) it was consensual for her, but it was abusive to those children. This makes my blood boil.

Hey, thanks for the post. On the other side of the issue of people knowing women who had cancer and were saved by early treatment-- I know a number of women (more than I know than who have had cancer), including myself, who had unnecessary biopsies and surgery because of false positives. And guess what? Painful. Scarring. Worrying. AND Even with insurance that can be expensive--re deductible and coinsurance. I know someone who had seven biopsies--all false positive.

Used to be the same backlash when recommendations changed from radical mastectomies to lumpectomies. We want to save women's lives, but it is also a legitimate issue that women don't want their bodies cut up for no reason either. My doctor admitted that though more women are surviving breast cancer these days, it is not because of early detection, it is because of better treatment.
I had someone in the field tell me that there are 8 false positives for every two legitimate cancers. If that is true, that means 80% of women with biopsies don't need them.
