Collins is a staple for serious pub seekers downtown. Forget Rock Bottom and fercrissakes forget Taphouse and Grill -- Collins is real beer and real food to go with it.

As JP said, the Dungeness Crab BLT is fantastic, and ingredients all around are fresh and high-quality. No Sysco goods here!

Beer selection is one of the best in town -- which means something in Seattle. Seth Howard, the co-owner, features a wide range of hard-to-find handles, and always seems to be tapping something special (e.g., Abyss...) that he's been holding in the cellar. Collins is also often the site of beer events during festivals such as Seattle Beer Week and special pairing dinners. He and his wife also own Mutiny Hall in Roosevelt and Hudson Public House (along with the next-door bottle shop, The Last Drop) in Maple Leaf.

As for the comments on the wait staff, it's an incredibly busy pub, often standing room only during happy hour. So yes...they might be slammed and you might have to wait longer than you would at your local Claim Jumper, loe.

But, I've been going there for years, both alone and with my young child, and have never experienced anything but friendly, courteous service.

We waited 20 minutes to give our order to a curt waitress and then an hour for the food. The risotto was bland and extremely undercooked (chewy!). The sausages were so dry and overcooked they looked like they had been heated in a microwave. The creamy polenta was alright but not worth going back for. We could not wait to get out of there!

I have eaten here several times and the food is simply amazing for a pub. The Dungeness Crab BLT is amazing and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The Steak Sandwich is also incredible, especially when ordered with the onion rings. The service is a bit lacking, especially if you are seated outside on the patio, but when they do come around, they are very friendly.
