I read all of the reviews of the Bistro and have to say I was up for an adventure. We had been one time in the past and it was...well...not that great. A friend had told us that it is under new ownership so we figured worth a shot at least.
The service was better than we have had in a long time then some. I had questions about the wine list and got a mini-education. I asked questions about the menu and got the details, not just some practiced descriptions. I was actually impressed. I had the halibut on the prix fixe menu ($25 for three courses) and it was cooked perfectly and very well balanced. My wife had the special (Jidori chicken with truffled corn) that we both actually liked better. The lemon napolean was AWESOME!
All in all it was a wonderful experience and we will be back. I am glad it has changed, so much for the better.

My family and I have been going here for years and it remains constantly excellent. Living in Paris has not changed my opinion about the quality and authenticity of this French bistro. The food is classic, simple, seasonal, and always high quality. The prices are very reasonable and better than most of the "gourmet" restaurants in Seattle.

The portions are perfect, and for those who don't agree perhaps they'd be happier at the Old Spaghetti Factory or an all you can eat buffet.

The wait staff is attentive without being overbearing. They always make the dining experience pleasant.

I would recommend this restaurant to anybody, visitor and local alike.

Everyone knows the service here is bad.

If you can get over that prepare yourself for disappointment with the food. Unoriginal and overpriced.

In addition to quoting Alice Waters (HA!) the reviews on their own website are several years old and the chefs have changed many times by now. This place has basically devolved into a tourist trap for people who think they're somehow getting some type of authentic Fremont neighborhood experience. But locals avoid this place because they know better.

I'm actually about to make reservations for tonight.
piece of advice - if you're looking for somewhere to dine, go and form your own opinion, don't listen to mine or any of the other negative reviews here by disgruntled consumers!

We had a terrible time at this restaurant. First, they sat us at the table by the kitchen (my view was into the kitchen). We asked to move, since there were 5 other tables available (one by the window), and the waitress said they couldn't move us to any of those tables. Why? Reservations maybe? NO! NOBODY came in after us, not a single person. I had the lamb (one star because the meat was very good), but the gratin was undercooked (crunchy potatoes). The portions were also ridiculously small. We hardly saw our waitress, even after waiting forever for the bill (the bus girl picked up our credit card from the table). The bus staff definitely deserved the tip, although one bus girl was like a zombie, lurchingly refilling our water, but never talking to us or looking at us. I would not recommend this place at all, the atmosphere is not that great.

This was some of the worst restaurant service I've ever had. I'm an ex-waitress (and a pretty bad one, at that), so I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. But this was truly horrible. It took forever to order, it took forever to get the food, the order was wrong, and the food had obviously sat under the lamps for quite a while.
One star for the scones! Those were yummy- and free!

I have to admit - the service was 'off' - I ordered my Dry Soda about 4 or 5 different times. But the person I was with put it pretty well: even though the service is spotty, he comes for the 'vibe', the atmosphere and the food. The service is not 'professional' dry dock service, but the food is good and the whole experience is pretty nice. We sat outside and didn't have that noisy experience the person below me had...

they wouldn't seat us right away even though there were a lot empty tables that didn't fill up the whole time we were there. we were told ten minutes so we got a drink in the "lounge" which is this weird section on the side of the dining room behind windows and not the least bit lounge-like. as soon as we got drinks they seated us and came twice to ask our order it felt very rushed and, as if we somehow owed them gratitude by showing up without a reservation and expecting the same service. it was like they were doing us a favor. the appetizer we ordered arrived in under two minutes and with the drinks half remaining we decided not to order wine. this place is not cheap and yet the whole timing was off, maybe they have a new staff now that is the only explanation we could think of.

Don't sit outside, 35th St was unexpectedly very loud and non-stop buses and trucks really ruined the experience. As for the food we thought it was just ok and overpriced. I think the rave reviews below are inside jobs.

35th has a new lounge people. Went in last night with a few people and we ended up staying for dinner. It's a cute space that opens up to the dining room. Great cocktails for around $5 and some very nice wine for up to 1/2 off. We were able to order the Spring Pea Risotto, white bean lasagna and organic chicken breast off the main menu. I'm not sure if this is standard but they were happy to accommodate our 'charm'...

Great lounge. we'll be back. Nothing quite like this in Fremont / north of downtown.

I went to this place last Thursday and I dont get all these nasty reviews. I had the scallop app. Deelicious. Then had a Salmon special with gorgeous pea vines and mushrooms. It was cooked a perfect medium rare to medium. Deeelicious. For dessert we had this fruit tart with lemon curd and a meringue top. Should I say it again? As far as inattentive service, that was not what we experienced at all. Our waiter was knowledgeable, entertaining and quick. I'll definitely go back.

Been twice and it's true the servers have no idea what they are doing. Asked to recommend a good wine we were told "wow, hmmm, they are all really good." Gee, thanks.

    Food was at best mediocre.

i just didn't think the food was good. they cover all the bases for a restaurant like this. there are mussels and fois gras and escargots and tuna carpaccio ... and beet salads and "famous" french fries. but nothing we tried had any real ZING, no 'WOW this is good!' inspiration. to my companion and i everything just seemed bland... flavorless... lukewarm (literally, in the case of the rainbow trout). attention to our table was sporadic. very slow on drinks, immediate on starters and then a long long pause waiting for dinner. it's a shame this is the type of restaurant that passes for high quality.

This restaurant tries hard to be something it is not. And a lot of people fall for it. Look at the reviews here -- nearly all of them are 1 or 2 stars or 5 stars. I've spent a lot of time and money in the Seattle restaurant scene, and I agree with the less favorable reviewers. You can get a "just OK" meal at 35th St Bistro but it's not a true stand-out. Especially once you consider the high prices and their reputation for spotty service. There are just so many better choices and I think that's why this restaurant doesn't really belong on the list of "must visits." If you're in Fremont, try Asteroid or Brad's Swingside cafe -- much better choices for a bit less money and more genuine atmosphere.

This is one of the top 15 restaurants / bistros in Seattle on most days. Great "room", great, fresh food, nice wine list and they're building a new bar. (Coming soon - don't know when - next week or two). Anyway, apparently very under rated on The Stranger - this place is way, way above 2.5 stars. 4.5 stars!

35th st is one of my favorites in Seattle. I consider it a sister to Zoe. I have been there a half dozen times and have never been disappointed. The Short Ribs are so melt in your mouth amazing with such delicous depth and bredth to the flavor. I had a Wild Boar Ossobuca that was amazing. The app's a good. The only thing that has made me hesitate is the young staff. When I want a martini, glass of wine and a nice meal I don't want someone looking blankly back at me. I want someone who knows a martini isn't a vodka shot. But everytime they have impressed me with good cocktails and knowledgable wine recommendations. The staff is well trained. Always a good choice.

I was recently, in the last week, at 35th bistro w/ a date and it was great. Very cool music, great service (needed to speak up and assert herself more in the busy environment, but that's it) and the food was fantastic. The atmosphere was great - busy, fun, buoyant. Yes, I used the word buoyant. It was alive! The scallosp and gnochi were awesome.
It's funny - the crowd here finds the highly negative reviews w/ no critical, objective information "useful"...reviews like "this place just sucked..dont go there" - oh yeah, useful. not. And the ones with actual information that lean towards the positive (see "fangfuckingtastic" review above) actually are deemed NOT USEFUL. How's that again? They mention menu items and other specificsa and that's NOT USEFUL. It's funny because it's one thing to be indifferent, but for it to be NOT USEFUL and for obtuse, reactive and actually not useful reviews (see genius review "not good - very very bad" are actually deemed "useful". funny. More facts and information people. Thanks...

I ordered steak medium rare. It arrived well done to burnt. I asked to have it redone. It came out so rare that is was bloody on the plate. I said I was full and politely asked to just have dessert. The manager came over and gave me a very evil eye and wanted to know if there was something wrong. I was very polite and said no. Then I received the bill and noticed that they had overcharged me for several items. It seems they wanted to make up for what they lost on their bad steak.
You could not pay me to visit this place again for any reason.
