Baby Mama is about as funny as you'd think it would be. That is to say: If you cringe at the idea of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey talking about rubbing olive oil on Poehler’s taint, or if you don’t see the possibility of humor in a story about a straight-laced infertile woman trusting a smoking, drinking, simple-minded white trash stranger to carry something as precious as the next generation in her womb, then you already know that this movie ain’t your bag. For those who suspect Amy Poehler is a rabid genius, though, you’re handsomely rewarded with a not-as-predictable-as-usual comedy that lacks a little character depth and falls back on the obvious joke a few too many times, but makes up for it by letting Poehler get a little crazy and inject the script with obviously improvised (and hilarious) moments.
