Anvil! The Story of Anvil For those who love Spinal Tap, Anvil! The Story of Anvil! is its hilarious and heartbreaking real-life cousin. The director worked as a roadie for Anvil, a Canadian heavy-metal band anchored by Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner, when they were living the rock ’n’ roll dream in the head-banging ’80s. Gervasi (who wrote Spielberg’s The Terminal) tracked down his friends—older, poorer, but no wiser—still holding fast to their teenage fantasy, albeit as 50-year-old dads with day jobs. The beauty of the film is that the director never loses the dream, either. By Peter Bowen
