Call Me Troy Since the late 1960s, Reverend Troy Perry has been raising holy hell—performing the nation’s first same-sex marriage in 1969, founding the nation’s first gay church in Los Angeles, and leading the fight against the Anita Bryant-fueled wave of hate that swept California in the ’70s. Scott Bloom’s loving documentary paints a thorough portrait of Pastor Troy, an American treasure who continues to push the envelope in all directions. (In addition to being a Bible-thumping preacher, he’s also an out-and-proud “Person of Leather”!) A good (if ordinary) documentary about an extraordinary man. By David Schmader
