This sharp drama about children of lefty guerrillas in 1960s Venezuela starts out playful before hammering you with the bleak realities of death and torture. Writer-director Mariana Rondón uses an inventive visual style to deliver the story through the eyes and ears of a child, with every mystery and moment of confusion intact. It makes for a smart, honest, and refreshingly original experience. (Director Mariana Rondon scheduled to attend.)
