Of course there is no such thing as a "typical" Takashi Miike movie, but there's something more than a little familiar about this tale of feudal gangs duking it out in the Old West. Yes, it's a Japanese Western, of sorts, which is fairly unique these days, but it's safe to say that the high points of Sukiyaki Western Django lie firmly in the action sequences. Miike opts to have his actors work in English, and it's pretty tough to decipher their strong accents. Plus, the movie's longer than it really needs to be. On the other hand it's got Quentin Tarantino in a suitably bizarre cameo as a gunslinger and the movie as a whole is pretty much a big, mushy love letter to Sergio Leone—so if you're up for a diverting genre concoction, give it a spin.
