I don't know a soul who's read his stuff who doesn't like DAVE HICKEY. After serving stints as a Nashville songwriter, a gallery owner, and an editor at Art in America, Hickey now writes a column for Art Issues and contributes to every arts-related magazine on the planet. His main gift may be his ebullient enthusiasm, which leads him to make proclamations like "I want an art that is so fucking amazing it's illegal in the boondocks," and which leads him to consider anything and everything, from the Carpenters to the appeal of the letter X, in his printed ruminations, which often have only a tenuous connection to art. But he's also a gifted critic, as his essays on artists like Josiah McElheny, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol amply prove. He speaks here as part of a three-day series of events with the painter David Reed.
