Stumbled upon this place after playground hopping

I don't know about these old reviews, or the old staff ; but here's a recent (2009) review: Growing kid friendly neighborhood begets kid friendly alehouse/pizzeria: The 'starbucks playground' as my little one calls it is nearby, and there's another playground on S. Jackson just a half block down. 29th & Jackson has no other commercial going on it: it's a wonder this place has a home here. Tucked away is good though: the place is already near capacity (judging from Friday nights). The kids area with real sourdough to play with is great.
Aside from the occasionally surly looks or mumbles from the cooks, the staff rock (as in helpful, nice, fast, friendly, bendover backwards to help you, and some are quite cute), and the owner chats you up. THIS is the kind of place you go to hang out for 3 hours with good conversation/good people. It's so endurable because the beer is cheap, the pies are huge, and the food tastes good.
Yes, it ain't no cheap place - it's gourmet seattle style handmade pizza, so bring $30 for a large and a drink. Not used to that? Then go ring dominos or put a red baron in the oven. You don't need the good stuff, I guess.
There's some odd combos/ingredients on the menu too: apples, almonds, pinenuts, arugala, coppacola, raw spinach etc feature in some of those. Guess what: all of the combos (tried 5 so far) also rock!! Crust is done well, toppings are clearly fresh, and they use a real brick pizza oven, not some stupid conveyor belt. All three sauces rock. And my honey, who orders the non-pizza items, says the pastas and sandwiches kick ass too.

I'm a sucker for good pizza, but even so I rate this: A very good (4 star) date night, great (4.5 star) place to be a regular, and perfect (5 star) night out with the toddler place. The pizza ranks in the top 3 I've had in the Seattle area.

Times have changed...for the BETTER!

I once had a bad exchange with some guy who was managing at All-Purpose Pizza and he has since been fired. The owner and a new manager have gotten things back on track, not only with the friendly service but with the food consistency. I would highly recommend this pizza place to anyone seeking a change from "the usual" - their red-wine pizza sauce is really outstanding with all of the gourmet toppings that are offered, and the meatball sub is to die for. You are missing out if you haven't had a chance to try this pie.

Abysmal Service & Management

All Purpose Pizza creates good pizza, but that doesn't make up for the horrible management and customer service. One time I added a Caesar salad to our phone pick up order, drove 10 minutes to the restaurant and then waited 20 minutes at the register for the salad. I could have gone into their kitchen and made it faster myself. On another occasion my wife phone ordered pizzas at 3pm for a party she was hosting and specifically said, “I will be picking them up at 5pm.” At the house her guests took two bites and threw their slices away because they were stiff as boards. The cooks obviously made them right after the phone call and just left them on top of the oven for 2 hours ! We sent them a letter explaining the situation, not asking for anything. $50 down the drain and they didn’t even have the decency to respond. I vowed that no matter how good their pizza is, I would never spend money on that place again. Do yourself a favor and go to Stellar Pizza or Tutta Bella. It’s superior pizza and they actually acknowledge your patronage and want you to return.

The Best Pizza in Seattle

I love this pizza. Even their plain cheese pizza has zip to it. They deliver Mt. Baker- the only other place that does is Dominos or Pizza Hut. When we do get our butts of the couch and go in, the pitchers of beer are half price with a 16" pizza. We go in with our neighbors about twice a month and get 2 pizzas and 2 pitchers for about $70. That includes tax, tip, and enough left over for lunch the next day. All-Purpose is also the best left-over pizza I have ever had!!

yum!

I love this place. It, like all new restaurants, seemed to go through an adjustment several months back, but seems back on track. I am glad I stuck it out. The pizza sauce is delicious (and I always ask for extra) and the crust has a hint of sour to it giving the pie an extra something-something. The meatballs are also most delectable (moist and perfectly cooked) and I gotta' say, the hummus might be the best in the city. Who knows how that might happen at a little, relatively unknown place? The service was good on the busy Friday night we were there. Our pitcher of IPA was half priced with our large pie. This place is literally owner operated and small (but loud). They are great, but definitely have the potential to be fantastic!

Average seattle pizza

Am I just pickier when it comes to pizza than most of you? Sure, this is great compared to Domino's or Pizza Hut, but that's not saying much. My pizza was undersauced, so I couldn't really tell that it had that great flavor everyone talks about. Though the crust did have a nice consistency, I couldn't tell it was sourdough, just tasted like decent bread. Nothing bad about the pizza, perfectly functional and perfectly cooked, just not much flavor, even compared to say, Hot Mamas, Piecoras and Pagliacci, all of which can be hit or miss, but always tend to hit my taste buds more than this did. Expensive as well....

Awesome Crust

I was referred by a friend and now I'm a believer. There is a huge difference with real sourdough crust. I have had many good pizza's, and normally it's the toppings and texture of the crust I notice about the pie. I have never had a crust with such a noticable sourdough taste....it's a must have now.

Great Pizza!

What a great pizza. I found myself savoring every bite. I can't wait to bring my family to experience the great combinations of flavors on the sourdough crust.

Slice of Sour Dough Heaven

Greatest combination of tasty toppings on a sour dough crust I have found in the area. Bonus, my family enjoys the pies as much as I do. Nice that a place has created pizza choices with so many individual flavors. Fun restaurant setting as well. I travel from the eastside for this delicious dining find.

Bravo

The crust is a sourdough crust- very unique and tasty. I usually leave the crust ends but not with this one. The sauce has red wine in it. I enjoyed it, but there was one in our party who does not drink so we had to order a pie with pesto as well. We should have just done 1/2 and 1/2. Their pizzas are very filling and two larges were too much food for our group of four. Our pitcher of Mac and Jacks was $7 -haven't seen that in a while!

They've Got It All

APP makes the best pizza I've ever had, hands down. Whether I'm in the mood for something light, like a garlic and olive oil base with basil, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, or for something heartier, like pepperoni, mushroom, and red onion, this place hits the spot. Top it off with cold beer, good wine, and a small play area that actually keeps the kids entertained and I'm hooked.

Underwhelmed

i guess it was the too much bland cheese - or maybe it was just that the cornmeal crust left me cold

Excellent Food, Drink, & Ambiance

I strongly recommend anyone who hasn't been, make ALL PURPOSE PIZZA your next outing! Our family loves it! We've been there numerous times for parties, family dinner or mom's night out. The top quality ingredients with that superb wine sauce and sourdough crust keep us coming back. Great for a night out with friends too, especially while pitchers of beer are 1/2 price with a 16" pizza order! Two huge screens and spunky interior make it the best pizza spot in town. APP we hope you're always in the neighborhood!

Cool atmosphere and great food

On the 100' day last month after a dip in the lake - I was looking for a place to cool down and eat. I walked into All Purpose Pizza and discovered that they had air conditioning, awesome sourdough pizza and beer specials. What a find - I will be back!

Addictive...will drive far for this pizza

Very creative combinations of fresh ingrediants. I usually leave the pizza bones (crust)on the plate but not at All Purpose..I eat the WHOLE thing. Kedra's Pizza my favorite!

Fun for all

Perfect place for a pizza party. We celebrated our son's 2nd bday w/ another family, 4 kids total. Kids kept themselves entertained w/ the pizza dough and play kitchen while the parents enjoyed adult beverages and conversation. The staff was relaxed and accommodating. We had to request that the front door be shut to keep our one roamer enclosed. No worries. I recommended your establishment to another Mom and she was already familiar w/ All Purpose and raved about your delivery service. Good news travels fast.

Delicious!

My family loves this place and we are all pizza lovers. We love the sour dough crust and the sauce is so yummy! Also, we (and our kids) love the atmosphere. It's kid friendly but not annoyingly so.

i'm totally addicted

We've been eating here almost weekly since they opened. The best pizza and salads in town! Great vibe and parents can kick back while the kiddies play in the "kid-chen". Very cool mom-and- pop owners that live in the hood. Worth seeking out and you have to try Ked's Fave. yummy!

Super staff- Super Pizza

How great to walk to a neighborhood joint where everyone knows your name. The pizza, it's sauce, thin crust, and fresh ingredients have to be the best combination in the NW. If you create your own great combo, the owners will consider it for a permanent menu item! Oh, and don't forget the hummus platter, YUM. Friendly staff, sunsets over downtown, and sports tv make APP one of my favorites!

The Best

APP has it all... fantastic food, cool & edgy decor, play area for the little ones, big TVs to watch the game, huge delivery area, friendly service - what more could you want? I love the "feta chini" pizza with feta, salami, and calmata olives. The soups & salads are really good too. Go check it out!!!

Love it...

I love this place. The sourdough crust is perfect with the tomato sauce (that is a little spicy and has some red-wine in it). I just had the house-made spaghetti and meatballs and WOW!! Spectacular - I vote they are the best in the city with that delish marinara sauce! The delivery zone is enormous and services much neglected central and south end 'hoods

Great neighborhood restaurant

I went with a couple friends on a Wednesday nite. The food was great, loved the sourdough pizza crust and adult beverages - plus we were able to watch the M's play. It's a great addition to the neighborhood.

Salt, meet APP. APP, meet Salt

Better than average pizza. Once you add salt, way better than average. Lose the metal wine goblets. Jovial staff enlivens pizza wait times in house. Delivery consistent with stated ETA. Salads are alright. Have never tried pastas or sandwiches.

Yummy

Mmmm I actually really like their pizza, I love the sourdough crust thing & the ceasar salad. Plus, if you live in the CD they're one of the few pizza places that delivers.

Room for improvement

Yes, the kid friendly thing is so alluring. Watching your kid play with dough at their little fake kitchen is adorable! But why does the pizza have to suck so hard? I agree with Gameboy- more garlic in that sauce! Maybe more salt generally? They are so close to being a great place. They just need to fine tune the flavor.

Kid Friendly

If you like kids this is the place for you. We've gone a couple of times and had decent experiences. They need to add some garlic to their sauce though. It's a bit bland. The cesar salad is tastey, but they should warn you about the capers.
