At the heart of Wallingford's Art of the Table is the Supper Club—weekend reservations-only dinner parties (either communal or private-table seating) with local/seasonal prix-fixe menus. (The penurious should save up for a Happy Monday, with a la carte food and excellent beer and wine specials.) Chef Dustin Ronspies's dishes are carefully balanced, almost perfectly executed, and absolutely delicious. One Stranger reader-reviewer lost their marbles about AOTT thusly: "Exceeded all expectations, unnervingly awesome!"

Seriously WOW!

I went to Art of the Table for the first time this past Monday for Happy Monday. I don't know if I will ever be able to eat in another restaurant and not compare it to the meal I had at AOFT. The menu is small but I think that makes the decision-making easier, just try one of everything. My favorites were the tuna confit and caramelized cauliflower pasta and the lamb-stuffed pepper with hummus and cilantro cream. It is just loud and small enough in the dining room that you feel like you are at a friend's house for a dinner party where everyone has had just a little too much wine (that's if you have friends who could ever cook this well). I wish that I could tell everyone that this place was awful because it is already hard enough to get a table but you must go, drop everything (if it is Monday) and run. Be ready for foodgasm after foodgasm. Oh and the waitresses are attentive, knowledgeable and super nice!

Exceeded all expectations, unnervingly awesome!

Incredible. We were there for the Valentine's day menu, I have never experienced a meal so imaginative, so beautifully prepared and presented, and such wonderful hosts. More than marvelous, it was truly miraculous. Looking forward to going back, and presenting an evening there as birthday and/or anniversary gifts.

Wonderful

Great place. The wild mushroom, polenta, and kale dish was out of this world. At my table we seriously talked about going back to the kitchen and begging for more. It was a wonderful dining experience.

Great food and great people.

We are lucky enough to live a couple of blocks from this little gem of a place so it has become a standard on Mondays and their small plates. We just order one of everything. We've eaten at the supper club a couple of times and the dinner in tribute to Julia Child's birthday was one of the nicest dinners I've ever had. Dustin the chef and Laurie both make you feel at home and relaxed.

It rocked my roll

Art of the Table is how food should be--unpretentious, delicious, simple. You step into Dustin and Laurie's 'house' for a memorable evening of food, fun, and leisure. I will go back again and again. As I said, "It rocked my (belly) roll."

Truly Happy Monday

I've never had the honor of enjoying Art of the Table's Supper Club on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evenings, but I've enjoyed their Happy Monday twice, and when I arrive, it feels like walking into a friends house for dinner. The intimate dining room is warm with colorful walls, hand built tables, and beautiful photos from abroad (often reflecting the weekly menu selection) snapped by Laurie, the friendly head server. Chef Dustin's goofy demeaner makes you feel comfortable and lends to the idea that he and his crew only want you to learn to love food as much as they do. Masterfully composed of fresh farmer's market ingredients, the heavenly Happy Monday small plates are a lovely way to experiment with fine dining, for both experienced foodies and those who want to learn. After partaking of every reaonably priced, small plate on the menu (because they all sound so enticing, trying just one plate is impossible) the total for dinner isn't always cheap, but their definition of "small" plate can easily be shared between two people so that you can try more. Compared to large, traditional fine dining experiences, Art of the Table is more comfortable, more fun, and oh so tasty. Check out their website (artofthetable.net) for Chef Dustin's weekly flavor focus and call to make reservations for supper club. Talk to the chef in person if you need a vegetarian selection, which he says he welcomes as a challenge. Happy Monday needs no reservation, but tables are limited.

Small Plates, Good Times

Monday happy hour was fantastic. The drinks and the food was fantastic for a great price. The staff makes it feel like you are dining in their own home. A very homey and comfortable environment.

Awesomeness

I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary. Chef Dustin and Laurie made it so special--they decorated the tables with artichokes and rosemary from the herb garden and welcomed us to their place like we were honored guests in their home. I don't usually choose restuarants in the fine dining category because the few times I have, it hasn't been worth the price. Art of the Table is worth every penny--each course was a delicious, delicate experience ad I felt so lucky everytime they brought a new dish to me. Laurie makes her own non-alcoholic, fizzy beverages with flavors like ginger-basil and blood-orange pomegranate. The weekend 4 course meals are $48 per person, and you can get paired wines for $25. The happy hour mondays feature small plates for $6, and are a more affordable way to share the love. Oh yeah, my girl said, "Twice as good as Rover's and half the price."

Good Food, Good Fun

I had the pleasure of dining at Art of the Table last Monday for their small plates Happy Monday. Cheap Drinks along with great food at reasonable prices kept the evening carefree. Everyone had a good time.
