exceptional

Unpretentious, cozy and satisfyingly located across from my current favorite dives.
I was freezing on a partially sunny 65 degree evening and bitched about such for a minute to the attentive joe in front of me. The barista made me some hot tea ON THE HOUSE to warm me up after my doppio.
AND They don't give a shit about latte art. They just care about what's in the cup and what you think about your underpriced caramel macchiato after you swallow.

Best in Seattle.

I live on 1st and Bell and commute to Northgate via the 16 early every morning, and I always hit Bedlam at 7:00am before making my way to the bus stop. The morning staff is very personable and are more than willing to accommodate my dietary restrictions when making my drinks. Their counter treats are TO DIE FOR and their tea is brewed just the way tea should be! A nice alternative to the Starbucks on 1st and Bell, especially considering the hours.

Capitol Hill has many good coffee shops-- Belltown has one AMAZING coffee shop. And it's this one.

If all cafes in Seattle were to join together to form Voltron, Stumptown might be the head, but Bedlam would be the blazing sword.

Whatever you do don't sit at the UNMARKED Employee table as you will be scolded in front of all of the other customers...mind you this table is in the customer section of the cafe. I'd rather spend my money somewhere where I don't have to walk on eggshells and customer service is the priority!

The biggest drawback of living in Belltown for me, next to the horrendous 1st Ave. nightlife scene, is the lack of good independent coffee places. So I was very happy when Bedlam opened right near where I live. Best of all, this place is the real deal, a classic old school Seattle coffee shop. No fancy furniture from Design Within Reach like the new places on the Hill. This place is funky, open very late on weekends, very good coffee, and a good vibe. I really hope this places succeeds!

Their coffee is delicious but you have to try it yourself. There are crazy and unusual decorations that are interesting to look at and discuss with your friends. The furniture is mismatched and recycled, but very comfortable. There is a cozy corner to play board games and twitter with your friends. The walls are adorned with pieces from local artists. Also, the owners are great!

Bedlam has treats on the menu like Hummingbird Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Cookies, Lemon Pecan Pie, Mighty-O Donuts and other delectable items. They don't just serve coffee, they have vintage sodas and incredible teas - things you won't find other places. In addition to the sweets, they have toast. OK, this is not ordinary toast, but toast worthy of your attention and has lots of topping choices.

Bedlam is open late! Not many places you can get a good cup of coffee, or desert at 2 AM even in Seattle.

They will not tell you where they get their beans but that isn’t what is important. If you want good atmosphere, a good time and a good cup of coffee, go to Bedlam.
