THE RENDEZVOUS/ JEWEL BOX THEATER2320 Second Avenue, 441-5823It used to be a glorious shithole, a seedy beacon of brown nestled in the pre-renewed shoals of Belltown. Now it is a goosed-up bar and theater, where the drinks are still strong, and the patrons are still lively. The main difference is that you're less likely to be vomited on by toothless Alaskans than in the old days. Don't get me wrong: The Rendezvous of old was one of the best things about Seattle in its day. But like the song says, that day is done, and like the other song says, there's a new day rising. And it's a pretty nice day. SEAN NELSON
